Ange1414 reacted to AH-SLP in 2018 Speech Pathology Graduate Applicants
I heard back yesterday evening (around 5:00), but I have a friend who didn't hear back yesterday, so I wouldn't be too concerned about it. I'm assuming they're closed today because of the snow, so maybe tomorrow or the next day!

Ange1414 reacted to BeachySpeechy in How do I know if I can afford a program?
It really sucks because a masters is necessary to work as an SLP. It’s not just an extra degree to make extra money.

The program is 57 credits so when you calculate it it should be way less around 45-50,000 like any other state school

Not gonna lie... I'm surprised you got into all of those programs with those stats (good but not outstanding). Gives the rest of us hope.

I also didn't include my leadership, my thesis/research experience, and other things. But glad to give people hope.

What in the world. Those aren’t good stats? So what would be considered “good stats”?

Their website says mid to late march so I'm sure this upcoming week we should hear from them!

Ange1414 reacted to evf in PA schools
I went to their Open House (two of them because one was just for grad students) and I absolutely fell in love with the program (back in October/November), but the fact that they are taking SOOOO LONG to send us the results, sort of changes how I feel about the program. I was also accepted to another school that made me feel the same way I felt for Kean (and it is a way smaller program and in NY--where I am from), so I might attend that one. Kean told me that it will take 4-6 weeks for them to make a decision (when deadlines are April 15th for most schools, I find that ridiculous). If you are leaning towards Kean they have a big variety of elective classes that you could choose from and their focus is autism and aphasia I believe. Hope this helps. @hopefulSLP2be7

I went to both programs' open houses. TC only gives first year students one client, while Adelphi gives upwards of 8 clients within the first year. Adelphi is about 12k more than TC. Adelphi has no study abroad opportunities and TC has gone to Bolivia the past few years. They both have bilingual extension programs. I am not sure where you are from, but the price of housing for TC is ridiculously expensive. I got a very good vibe from Adelphi, but it is a shame it is so expensive. I feel that TC is much more researched based as well. I hope this helps in some way!

I am from NJ, but go to undergrad in PA at West Chester. My boyfriend lives in Philly and his older sister went to under grad at La Salle (not for speech). I know for sure that Temple is in a very unsafe area, but I think La Salle is slightly better. His sister told me that it was a great school, just not safe off campus. If you're not used to the inner city environment, I wouldn't necessarily turn down a grad school offer, but would be very cautious when traveling off of campus. I would just carry pepper spray with me and always pay attention to my surroundings. I hope that helps!

Hi guys! I interviewed at LIU Post yesterday and I think it went really well! I currently go to Molloy College for undergrad and was planning to go there for grad school, but now I am really interested in the graduate program at post. Does anyone go there and can share some info. about the program (likes/dislikes, teachers, etc.) ?

Hi! I currently go to Molloy and can share some info...
The professor interviewing is very intelligent and professional, yet caring and easy to talk to. Also, my friends who already had their interviews told me that everyone is required to do a quick writing sample and the interview is very much like a conversation!

What are your concerns? I previously attended Farmingdale State College for two years. While I was here, I pursued prerequisite courses for a physical therapy program, which included anatomy and physiology, chemistry, and biology. Theses courses took a toll on my GPA at Farmingdale State College. When I graduated with my associates in liberal arts and sciences, my GPA was about a 3.5. I then went to Molloy College for 3 years, which was where i completed my coursework in speech pathology, and achieved an overall GPA of 3.91. I am a little nervous that graduate programs will look at my past and see that I had a 3.5 at Farmingdale College. I know my GRE scores are pretty average, but I work and volunteer a lot, so I am hoping this helps!
SLP Major Average GPA: 3.93, overall: 3.91 (at current college) previous college: 3.5
GRE: V: 151 Q: 150 A: 4.0
