Just jumping into a conversation again—glad to see some happy conversation going on about DFW. Some of my research is on Wallace and religion, and I do some work for the DFW society. Personally, I think IJ is way more readable than the novels it's often listed with: Gravity's Rainbow and The Recognitions and Jerusalem and the like. But I think that his best writing is, as you say, in BI, plus Oblivion.
Totally jumping into this conversation late, but I'm really digging everyone's tastes in music. @flungoutofspace, I just started listening to St. Vincent, and I'm into it. I only know Anna Calvi through her bit on a Noah and the Whale track, but I should go check out her solo stuff.
Anyone ever listen to Bad Bad Hats? Their new album that came out in 2018 is fantastic.
Hi, all! Thoughts on the relevance of endnotes and works-cited pages to suggested page counts? My sample runs a little over one school's 25-page requirement; the argument concludes on page 23, and the endnotes finish on 24, but the works cited stretches over a few more pages. A big problem, or something that can be safely ignored?
2019 applicant here! Finished my MA last year but didn't get off the waiting lists at either UVA or UTA. Reapplying there, plus Berkeley, Duke, Chicago, Stanford. I feel like I'm a competitive candidate, but I dunno what to do, exactly, to get past that waiting-list plateau-jump. Good luck to all here!
If you're concerned about OSU's teaching, drop me a message: I'm finishing up my MA in lit/culture there, and I help train the incoming GTAs. I'd be happy to answer any questions!
Hi, all—a second-year Oregon State MA student here. We got nothing by postal mail two years ago, and my own notice that I'd made it off the waitlist was by phone call. Things have probably changed since then, but I thought I'd share.
