Has anyone applied to the University of Denver or Colorado State? I applied to both a month ago and I don't know how much longer I can stand not knowing!

I just received my acceptance from NYU today with a 15k per year scholarship. I'm on the Shanghai/NYC pathway.  I'm going to commit as it was the only grad school I applied to.
    Good luck everyone!

You realize most people never have a "thing", right? Believing in having a "thing" is something, in my experience, that seems to be peculiar to those of us with major educational aspirations...most people don't actually think about jobs in terms of life-defining career passions. Having an okay job and coming home and investing in your hobbies, family, and/or friends is a perfectly happy and healthy way to live, and that is in fact how most people—those who aren't in poverty—live! If you want that, you are not wrong or unusual for wanting that. And many happy people without a "thing" are married to other people who value hobbies and stability more than rapid career advancement, but some number of those people are also married to high-powered-career-type individuals. Most academics are not married/partnered to somebody from a "comparable" school. They spend their lives with all sorts of people! The "comparable" school thing a very small pool, and with the whole diverse world of human experience, why would you constrain your heart like that?
Anyway, I don't mean to discount your doubts: it's definitely possible that you will be unhappy dating your boyfriend while you are still looking for your "thing." I can't answer that for you. But that's only one possibility—I want to affirm for you that that's not universal, so you could also be perfectly happy deciding that your "thing" is having a nice life, a nice job that never follows you home, and all the other perks that follow from stability and free time. It might totally be an awkward year before you get in somewhere! But it could also be totally fine.
As somebody who spends a lot of time fighting the your-career-is-your-life thing in Type A circles, even as I somewhat participate in that myself, I have a prescription that I think would help. Find some media where some of the main characters find happiness outside of their career. My first suggestion would be Parks and Rec. I can't think of a lot of other suggestions right now, but basically, you're looking for the opposite of the West Wing.
That's because "I feel like so many people have told me (including my bf) that individuals in couples need to be totally individual and have their complete separate lives outside of each other in order for the relationship to flourish" makes me feel like you are getting ONLY the "passion! career! job! work!" messages. If that's so, I think you'd have an easier time deciding what you want if you had media that affirmed that you can be happy without being "rah rah career" every month of your life, to balance out the input you're getting. It's not like "passion! career! whatever!" is bad, at all! But there's many ways to be, you know.

Yeahhhh, it’s complicated. I’m a second cycle applicant and I didn’t get enough money in scholarships to justify attending last year. We’d been looking to move for a while and Pitt has guaranteed admission if you have over a certain GPA and apply by the deadline. I have tried to give it a chance but I just really don’t like it. My boyfriend wants to stay though and we can’t really afford to move again so soon, so I’m stuck. I think it will be better once I start school, but the next 7 months are gonna pass super slowly for sure. Thank you for your kind words, they’re much appreciated. ?

I actually just received my acceptance in the mail and it had info on merit scholarships. I was awarded $12,000 in total for the year. I haven’t checked last year’s thread to see if this is the average amount or not. While I’m thankful I received something, as an out of state applicant, that still leaves more than half I’d have to pay out of pocket. The numbers seem really daunting. Has anyone else received numbers yet?

According to the thread I linked earlier from last year, the earliest anyone heard about money (at least on here) was March 1st.
I don't think there's a thread for 2017 (I could be wrong), but in 2016, the earliest was February 18th. So probably late February/early March? I'm sorry @bloome, I know that's probably not what you were hoping to hear.

Ooh, this is rough, I feel for you. It's hard to hang out with friends and their partners - sometimes people just don't mesh very well. I hope it doesn't end up hurting your friendship in the long run!

I applied around the same time as you both and didn’t receive any email notification so decided to check the application portal—found out I was accepted as well! Unfortunately, the portal didn’t have any info on fin aid or when we need to secure our enrollment.

Just quickly jumping into this thread! I am finishing up my BSW degree and will graduate in May. I have applied to GMU, UW Seattle, and Columbia. A little nervous because I am young and therefore have limited experience in comparison to other applicants, but if I don't get in this year - there is always next year!

    Hey everyone!!
I am awaiting a decision from UM. They actually had me interview. I’m non traditional student with a lower gpa. Honestly, I’m shocked I even got an interview! I’m feeling very unsure about the interview.
But I received an email from my supervisor, one of my LORs, and she said she talked to someone from student services (who happened to be who interviewed me). She said the conversation was “promising” but I’m not sure how to take this news. They’re calling my recommenders so that could either be a good or bad sign.
Thank you for reading my long, anxious post. You are all smart, strong, capable people and I hope you get into a progam that is a great fit for you with all the financial aid you can ask for!

Hi everyone! I’ve been lurking on these forums for a couple weeks and figured it was time to contribute. I applied to University of Michigan, NYU, Columbia, Boston College, Boston University, University of Texas Austin, UC Berkeley, and Portland State. I’ve been accepted to NYU and University of Michigan so far.
I’m a little nervous because NYU wants a deposit by the first week of February. From what I saw on the forums last year it seems like it’s common to ask for an extension but I’m scared to push it… can anyone speak to this?

@A.E.S Thank you! I will hopefully receive news soon!
@miler95 Thank you! I'm so happy I got this far and had the chance to interview. I am in state. I'm actually only 30 minutes away from the school! I'm pretty familiar with Ann Arbor too. The interview was a little nerve-wracking but the questions were pretty straight forward. I did fumble on one question but I was very nervous and I'm sure they could tell. It's so scary to interview for something that could change your life. I'm only applying to one other school, a local school (Eastern Michigan University) because moving is not an option for me.

Ask if your professor is willing to write a LOR for you. Go to each school's admissions website and input your professor's email The schools will send forms for your professors to fill in his/her letter of recommendation Your professor can copy and paste the one letter s/he wrote for you into each school's online form. Hope this helps.

If anyone is looking for a Texas school or just hasn't considered it yet:  University of Texas - Arlington is ranked #34 for MSW programs in the nation, and they have an insanely quick application process.  I'll summarize but include the link to their page in case you wanted to read more.  Maybe not many of you are interested, but for those who are, this would be a fast application to a good school and save you from asking for more Letters of Recommendation and writing more essays.
    1. Advanced Standing (BSW Students/Recent BSW Graduates) - if your Jr/Sr GPA is above 3.0 just pay the application fee and turn in your transcripts.  No LOR, no essays, no pain!
    2. Non BSW (any major besides Social Work) - If your last 60 hours are above a 3.0, pay the fee and turn in your transcripts.  Same as above, no LOR, no essays!
Note: If you are between a 2.7 and 3.0 GPA you will have to take the GRE, get letters of recommendation, and submit a personal narrative.
