Just out of curiosity, when did you guys apply for laurier's online program?  I applied end of Feb (right before they closed the window to apply) but didn't get all my references in till mid march. I am just wondering cause I only found out about this program while exploring the Laurier website at work one day. Did the program come out in Jan or before then?

Right? There are other schools that at least say how many people are on the waitlist or where they are. Based on past forums, it looks like Windsor's and Western's waitlist does move, at least more than other schools such as UofT.

I know there are others here still waiting on UofC.... I'm happy that we will hear a definitive answer this week because, seriously.... this roller coaster of waiting for an answer, becoming resigned to the fact that I wasn't getting in, then hearing that I still had a chance, is driving me insane. I refresh this page, my email, and the UofC login several times daily. I just want to know so I can move on with my life. I'm sure others feel the same, so I just wanted to get that off my chest!!

I have not received an email either and my Loris is unchanged. Trying not to let my anxiety get to me but it’s tough. As so may others on here, the direction of my future is dependent on whether or not I am accepted. I also feel the stress you are experiencing waiting for an outcome. I’m going to try to go about my day as usual with hopes that we will all have an answer soon. Wishing everyone all the best of outcomes.
    You are not alone!

Hey don't worry you will get there! Most importantly, don't be too hard on yourself.
You mentioned that you were a victim of domestic violence. I would use that to help get you a volunteer position at a women's abused shelter, violence against women association, something along those lines. When you apply, you will easily be able to express your interest in working for those agencies due to your experiences (you don't have to mention your experiences of course if you are not comfortable). There are a ton of abused women shelters and hotlines looking for volunteers. The good thing about these agencies is that they usually offer you a part-time position if you  have volunteered there for a while and if an opening comes up.  I agree - it is hard to get a paid position with no experience (even for those with social work or related degrees lol), but it is little easier to get volunteer positions with no academic background in social work. A lot of social services agencies do not necessarily only take on volunteers with a social work background. They take on people who have a deep interest and desire to work with and help the community they are serving. My friend graduated from poli sci at ryerson and started volunteering at a shelter for abused women and it eventually led to a casual position. She is a huge violence against women advocate - and this shined through in her CV and interview.
Yes I know working for free sucks haha but you will learn so many skills, meet so many people and build valuable experiences that will help you get to where you want to be. It will also allow you to build your social work network. Just don't give up, once you start volunteering , you will see how much you have built your resume and thats an amazing accomplishment!

Yes I do! I tend to use those two terms interchangably, but you're right, officially its called research methods.

I spoke to someone yesterday and was told this is true. They will be offering eligible people sept spots if there is no room for may. They didnt specify how many people they will send off to sept but they will call and confirm with you first if you are okay with it

    Hey All!
I just wanted to chime in the conversation. Long time lurker. I also got accepted earlier this week (I have the 'Invited' on my Acorn account). My last name starts with 'A'. I was previously a student at UofT. I did really badly due to health and mental health issues. My GPA was around 2.4. I did do really well in the research courses, which I know they take into consideration. I decided to do a certificate program at York and did extremely well (8/9 GPA). I applied to UofT Sept 2017, and was put on the waitlist. I was hesitant applying for 2018. I have a lot of volunteer experience in the social services field. I showed a lot of vulnerability in my essay, and showed how I overcame it.
I might sound like a broken record, but don't give up! Don't take rejection as a reflection of your self worth. Work on yourself first. Find inner happiness and strength. It took a while to learn that. I am in a much better place now because I learned the proper tools for self care.
My therapist mentioned to me that they are pretty big on mental health (She has MSW from UofT). Also advised me to get volunteer experience where they train you in counselling (eg. Distress Centre).

Congrats to those who received good news today!! I tear up just thinking about getting an offer so I can’t imagine how you must feel right now
I know a lot of us are probably pretty disappointed right now, but remember a few things:
    1) No call does not necessarily mean a rejection, it could be a wait list.
    2) We are still waiting to hear from more schools!
    3) You are NOT your admissions decision. It can be very easy to accidentally equate ourselves with our success in this process (I know I’ve done it). I’ve found that being cognizant of this and making a conscious choice to separate the two really helps me bounce back quicker
We will all get where we are meant to be when we are meant to be there.

Does it always say SW MSW 2 2018-2019 for you guys or does that only show up along with "invited" once you have been accepted? Cause right now, it says nothing under degree registration status, only "you do not have any enrolled courses for 2018 Winter"

Do you think there will be another round of acceptances?
And for those who go accepted - what was you avg and how many yrs of experience did you guys have?
