Hunter College Social Work Fall 2018
TeacherTurningSocialWorker replied to Zyra's topic in Social Workers Forum
Has any one received their financial aid package from Hunter yet? I'm curious how much they offer in scholarships (if anything) and what the loan options look like. I'm 95% sure I'm going to Hunter but I want to be sure of exactly what I am getting myself into before I put down my deposit. -

Columbia Social Work Program Fall 2018
TeacherTurningSocialWorker replied to lanabeni's topic in Social Workers Forum
Declined my offer today. Hopefully that can help fill up space for those still waiting. Good luck! -
Not difficult at all. Just be prepared to answer potential follow up questions when answering why hunter, why social work, and your related experience. If you’re a career changer (like me), make the connection clear (if that applies) or make the moment you knew social work was a better fit clear. you also get a writing sample- a bit dense, but not difficult. my best advice is to be yourself. Sell yourself while still being yourself. I could tell my whole group was nervous, but it ended up feeling more like a conversation. Also show that you can listen to your peers and be succinct and clear in your answers! good luck!

Hunter College Social Work Fall 2018

yes! you too? -
It didn't really hit me until I got accepted to Columbia and NYU on the same day. Like, I grew up a poor kid, only child of a single, 16 year old mother. Was always "smart" and always did well in school without really trying. It was a proud moment when I graduated from undergrad (also the first in my family to go to any type of college!!), but it was a prouder moment when I called my mom and told her that I was accepted to an Ivy League school for graduate work. Even though I won't be attending Columbia, I'm so proud of myself. So it's hitting me now when I'm realizing the amount of loans I'll need to take out, while also quitting my job to complete a full time program. Eek!

My timeline has been like this: submitted application on 2/8/18. References finally came through on 3/8, received email that my application is complete on 3/9. Received request for interview on 3/13. Interviewed 4/2. Accepted 4/4. Have seen that it really varies for most people. Some people applied in January and still haven't heard back... Good luck!

I know this is a year late, but I'm in the same boat now in 2018. What did you end up doing?! I'm Struggling between NYU and Hunter (mainly because of cost). Interested in clinical, with pursuing an LCSW down the line. Any advice helps.
