  1. Extremely interested in this as well.... I was expecting not to hear back for a bit (based on someones post somewhere in the forums here that they work at a lab at UNL and heard that they aren't sending out interview invites until early January)
  2. University Nebraska Lincoln emailed me yesterday saying my review was complete (but no decision yet) and then i got an email from them this morning, freaked out, but saw that my application was back to "under review"?? ? so much anxiety about what this means lol
  3. I gave my letter writers starbucks gift cards tucked into a thank you card, but cookies or something like that would be nice too (as long as you know they don't have any dietary restrictions :p)
  4. So jealous that people are starting to hear back.... I'm sitting here refreshing my email feeling more nervous every day. Luckily I haven't really seen anyone at the schools I've applied to get interviews yet (except LSU- but that seems like a current student in the lab reached out to them). :/ I'm trying to stay distracted but it's really hard
  5. Hi Christabel I'm in the same boat as you--- not so stellar undergrad GPA and so/so quant GRE scores. I am so so happy to take a look at your SOP. Please PM it to me. If it helps at all, I've looked through some of the old forum posts and noticed that GPA is not everything. Some people with lower GPAs got into programs and some with higher GPAs did not. There seems to be a lot of emphasis on research fit! I think we just need to try our best and put our best foot forward, and hope that programs and POIs see something special in us that transcends raw numbers.
  6. Hi everyone, Is there anyone here who is willing to take a look at my draft SOP? I am also very happy to take a look at yours in return. This is my first cycle applying for a clinical psych phd and I am extremely appreciative for someone who doesn't know me personally to take a look at it (I feel like sometimes my friends/family/colleagues are too familiar with me to offer true constructive feedback). Feel free to reply here or PM me
  7. I read through an intro psych textbook and had only an introductory psychology course under my belt. I got a 700 (76%) which I am happy with considering that I did not major in psych undergrad and basically self-taught myself everything. I also found a bunch of PDFs online of previous years tests and took those to help me prep. I think I spent ~4 months sporadically studying and then 4 weeks of serious study
  8. Thanks so much for these links! I haven't read through them all but your "things I wish I knew before applying" helped me feel less anxious
  9. Hi everyone!! I'm planning on applying to Clinical Psych PhDs this fall. I'm interested in programs where I can work with mentors who are doing work with the LGBT community (or topics that are particularly relevant to the community like suicide). My particular area of interest is with transgender adolescents- I have been working for 3 years on the team of an NIH funded study examining the long-term outcomes of trans kids' mental health after they start treatment which has been incredible. And I've been lucky enough to get 3 publications out of this position so far which I am grateful for. My gpa from undergrad is quite low (3.3) and not in psychology so I am hoping that my experience and my publications and conference presentations will make up for that! So far, my top choices are U Mass Boston (2 profs doing LGBT work!), University of Nebraska Lincoln, University of Washington (researcher doing work with trans preschoolers!!). I will also be applying to a variety of other programs where profs aren't doing work with the LGBT community yet, but are working on projects in areas that are directly applicable to my interests (like trauma, eating disorders, and suicide risk and protective factors). I've taken the general and psych GRE and so glad to have gotten that out of the way. Now I am just focusing on my day-to-day job, getting one more article in press before I apply, picking a psych course to take this fall, and my new volunteer position at a suicide helpline. SO happy to connect with you all as we make our way through this process! :)
