No one here knows what it’s like to be a psychologist. We’re all trying to get into grad school so that we can get a degree in psychology and become one.

Echoing @londonrain9 and @ResilientDreams -- I've a 2014 retina pro too! It's still going strong, and I love it, been using it for the IB (two years) and three years of uni. I love it to the extent where I'm deeply worried what I'd do if it broke. I'm not a fan of any of the newer Macs, but damn I don't wanna go back to windows. Never had to do repairs or anything on mine. Hoping it lives forever haha.

THIS. This is so important to remember! Even after I got accepted I had people tell me I was too young. Clearly, the adcomm disagrees, and it’s pretty obvious who has more authority on that decision

This is such great advice. I got rejected from all but one school the first time I applied. I knew that school wasn’t the right choice for me, but I went anyway because I was so sad and dejected. I made it for a year before withdrawing and deciding I was NOT going to be a psychologist. I became a bartender, a buyer for a clothing store, and then became a social worker (which I loved tbh). Anyway, TEN years later, I’m reapplying. I haven’t gotten in anywhere at this point, but my outlook is so different. It is such a crazy, competitive, unfair, sometimes nonsense, heartbreaking process. Don’t get me wrong, I’ll be sad if I don’t get in (SO SAD), but I have learned more about myself and what I want personally and professionally over the last ten years than I would have if I had just gotten in. I’ve moved a ton, made a family, made mistakes, learned, helped people, helped myself, and came back to psychology because I love it & I’m going to keep on trying even if it doesn’t work out for me this time. Your worth isn’t defined by this, even though it may feel that way. You are more than this and you may be so surprised by all you can accomplish by taking some more time before going to a program. You have your WHOLE LIFE to be a psychologist. It will always be there whether it begins this year, next, or in ten (hi!), or twenty, or whatever!! Rejection hurts. But as someone who was so hurt that I literally needed a break from the field, I can tell you that it heals, and I truly feel like in my case, it was for the best (corny AF but true!). Give yourself a hug, put on a great movie (Crazy Rich Asians is a great feel good movie), pour yourself some wine, and remind yourself that you are a rockstar no matter what.

So I did get into the program! The admissions office made a typo in my email address. They actually sent the formal offer LAST FRIDAY and cc’d my professor on it and I only found out to day when the director of the program forwarded it to my school account wondering if I’d gotten it! Woohoo!

The people accepted have until April 15th to decide, so reasonably, you could wait until April.

I second this 100%. This could be a great opportunity to make an even stronger impression on the faculty and students (and your POI if she goes!) that could really help you stand out. You can plan an even better romantic night with your boyfriend in the future, hopefully celebrating an acceptance to the program. ?

Some perspective: there are two full months until April 15. Yes, it sucks to not know early, but it really doesn't make a difference if someone turns down an offer and you get a spot today or in 2 weeks. Realistically, most people are not going to start turning down offers until they've gone on all their interviews, 48 hr rule or no 48 hr rule. The whole April 15 deadline came about so programs couldn't send early offers and pressure students to accept before they had all their offers on the table.

This. Also, a lot of programs are still finalizing funding and/or make offers of admission separate from funding packages. I'm holding 3 offers right now but that's because none of them have gotten back to me about funding yet. Chill out, guys. If you're going to get off the wait list, it will happen whether it's today or in a month.
