  1. Congrats @Spurs! Do you know when we will receive financial aid packages? Also received my acceptance yesterday, but for the International Studies program!
  2. @sandvoldus Yes, definitely stick with that deadline of the 4th! I just wanted to speculate a little.
  3. @Wahoo2020 A year later so this is not relevant for you anymore, but I did receive an email about creating my SIS account today. Have yet to receive a decision notification. For other Batten applicants, did you also receive the SIS account email?
  4. Hi @Tammystar! Did you get the "Confirmation of Receipt of Application" email when you submitted the application? A link to the Facebook group is at the bottom of the message.
  5. What do you end up writing for the financial aid essay? And what program did you end up applying for?
  6. Hi @SC88! I am an applicant for the MIA. What do you want to know? Have you joined the IHEID Applicants Facebook group yet? I know they're answering a lot of questions there.
  7. I just received a reply email from Korbel about the notification date - it's the first week of March (again, according to the past GradCafe threads)
  8. I am going to start another one of these types of threads for Korbel. I submitted my Master of International Studies application on December 1st after getting a lot of email from Denver saying that they would waive my application fee if I applied by the 2nd. I assumed that because of this eagerness for early applications that they would be sending out rolling decisions, despite the January 23rd priority deadline. I now assume that they assess all applications in one round (and I think I saw a decision notification date somewhere on the website but I can't find it now). However, my DU application was the first I submitted, and it feels strange to be waiting on it for long when I've already been accepted to another school whose application I submitted later. Anyway, that was just a drawn-out way of saying that I would like to know where all of you are in the application process. Have you received a decision? Are you interviewing for the Sie Fellowship? Have you heard anything about how DU assesses prospective students' applications?
  9. According to Batten's website, the decisions come out on March 4th. And I've applied to Batten, Middlebury Institute of International Studies (admitted), Columbia (waiting), Graduate Institute, Geneva/IHEID (waiting), and the University of Denver (waiting). I went to go visit Batten in the fall and I really liked it. I think the curriculum is broad enough that it will really help me whichever sort of field I end up working in. I like all the leadership-focused classes and the opportunity to participate in the Natl. Security Cohort, given that I'd like to go into foreign affairs. Also helps that I think the grounds and greater Charlottesville are beautiful and I'm a VA resident!
  10. Congratulations on your acceptance, @hammyc! I would definitely request an extension to that deadline, the worst they can do is say no! I would also do more GradCafe research to see how successful SIPA students are at requesting additional financial aid. I am encountering a similar situation as I've already got into a school with rolling admissions (MIIS) but the rest I am waiting until March for as well. MIIS is asking me to confirm my attendance by March 8th. It gave me a disappointing financial package, however, I've read that very few people have been able to get more funding (if anything that offer failed to make the school move up from 4th on the list of the 5 places I'm applying). I also was told during my interview that I was asking for a lot of funding. So I'm going to see if I can extend the deadline until the end of March if possible. If that's not possible, I'm going to research whether or not the enrollment deposit is refundable. I applied to SIPA for the MIA before the regular fellowship consideration deadline, so I won't hear back until mid-March. I have great experience and undergrad grades but did poorly on the quant. section of the GRE. I used the quantitative resume to point out how well I did in the higher level econ classes I have taken and I hope that'll work in my favor. SIPA's my reach school so I'm not feeling confident about my chances, but I think I have the type of work experience they're looking for and my undergrad institution is one of the top IR schools (American), so I think having done well in that program will help me.
  11. My prompt was something like: "Are people in your hometown engaged in politics?" Finished the video interview on December 30th but just got around to seeing this post now.
  12. Hey @sandvoldus, I also applied in Round 1 to Batten! Where else are you applying and where does Batten fall in that list?
  13. Just received another "no" from Pickering. Hope you all get better news.
  14. Lurking this thread again! Assume we'll hear back tomorrow and/or Friday about Pickering. I wish y'all the best of luck and please let us know when you hear from the program.
  15. Yes, I'm also waiting for Pickering. Based on what we discussed in the thread a week ago, I think I have a better chance to get it if they're making the decisions based on personal demographics (i.e. I'm not a person of color but I am female with a rural, working class background). If they use our current educational/employment status, I also think I have a good chance for Pickering (i.e. two and a half years of undergrad). If their decisions are based on neither of those components, I still remain ill-advisedly hopeful. I have a lot of really relevant experience...and I hope that some fellowship program, even if its neither of these, sees it soon (understatement of the century: grad school is expensive). These fellowships are just stupidly competitive because we're all strong candidates.
  16. Just got the email: it's a no for me. Hope the rest of y'all hear soon.
  17. Anywhere from 12-48 hours left to hear from Rangel. Hope my heart palpitations aren't too bad whenever I open my inbox. ? One last good luck, all! And if you applied to both and receive a Rangel rejection, just remind yourself that there's still a possibility you'll receive a Pickering invitation in a week and a half.
  18. Oh, fantastic! Thanks for pointing that out!
  19. Yeah, I saw that page about a week ago when I was lurking their website. Rangel provides a specific date for notification but Pickering's is still listed as late October.
  20. I recently just got an email from the LKY School about them offering GRE vouchers for high performing students. Is this something other schools have done for students in the past? I am definitely taking advantage of LKY's voucher and would love to know if other schools have made them available for prospies. Also, I've seen that some people in this forum have gotten GRE waivers from some schools. If you've been one of the lucky few, how have you gotten a waiver? Would you have to demonstrate high performance as well, or show that you can't make it to a testing center (e.g. you're a current PCV)?
  21. 8 more days until Rangel notifies us! Hopefully I won't check my email too many times on the 17th...for my own sanity... By the way, how close do we expect the finalist pools to be between Rangel and Pickering? Apparently Pickering has more of a history of taking grads vs. Rangel taking seniors, but with the changes in program admin. and numbers of students who receive Pickering changing, I wonder if those trends will continue.
  22. How are your applications going? Finalizing my statements of purpose today, they are mostly the same except that I include a section in my Rangel statement about how a Hill internship would benefit me.
  23. I second this. How do you know if admissions will give you a waiver? Do you get one after talking with the recruiter about your experience or going on a campus visit?
