  1. Hey everyone, I will be declining my offer to NPSIA, 6k scholarship, since I was offered more money with the EURUS program at Carleton, and have heard really good things about it. I am hoping this opens up a position to others who have NPSIA as their first choice. Good luck and I hope to see some of you guys at Carleton next year
  2. Hey there, I don't think you're rejected unless they send you an email and tell you that straight up. I know its pretty nerve-wrecking but just keep waiting. They may wait for people to decline and then send out offers again. Also, I was wondering if someone can help me make sense of the funding for NPSIA? They are only showing funding for the first year which is a 6k departmental scholarship and an approx 10k TAship. Does this mean I won't be a TA for my second year? Would I have to apply to be a TA in my second year?
  3. It's not working for me either, I am supposed to set up a MyCarletonOne account but it says the system is down :(
  4. I got accepted as well! Now I just have to make the tough decision between NPSIA, GSPIA, and EURUS
  5. Dang, hopefully NPSIA works out for you. Do you mind posting your stats btw?
  6. Yep, she got a job with the Alberta government as a policy analyst. She was also heavily interested in energy sustainability so I think she did some work with the Minister of Energy
  7. I have a couple friends who have been in the SPP program in Calgary (I am from Calgary and go to UofC), I've only heard good things. You do a capstone program and can finish it 1-2 years, the professors are really good too. The campus is downtown I believe. One person I knew got into doing the program part-time while working as a constituency assistance full time. She said it worked out super well for her since she was able to manage rent, tuituton, etc. while working and not getting loans/debt. also, I got into GSPIA with 6k/year as well. Haven't heard from NPSIA yet :(
  8. I also applied to EURUS at Carleton and got notified by phone today. Still waiting on NPSIA & UOttawa but looks like I'll be heading to Carleton too.
  9. Hey guys, I honestly would not be worried. I think they're just going through the applications in order and mine just got through first. It doesn't mean an acceptance or anything. It is nerve-wrecking though, I've been checking it almost every day haha
  10. Thank you so much for that offer! If I do get in to Carleton, I will be coming in from Calgary, AB. I've never been to Ottawa so it would be great to connect with a few people there and get to know the campus. And thanks for sharing your input too, I think I tend to over-stress a little about these things, but you are right, it is better to have flexibility and not put all your eggs in one basket. Also thought I should add, my admission to NPSIA is in the recommended for assessment status. I am guessing that means they've looked through the documents and will send it to the department to make the final decision. Best of luck to everyone else!
  11. Thanks for your input! I know I am kinda making it seem like I have a one-track mind. GAC isn't my only end goal. I actually would like to be a diplomat, now, there is no one route to doing this. I guess I was just more curious about what everyone thought in regards to NPSIA still being the #1 program for international work and whether it might actually be better to specialize in area or region.
  12. See that's really interesting cause I know someone who got accepted into NPSIA & another MA program in Carleton, they decided to go to the more specific MA program rather than NPSIA because apparently hiring managers at GAC are straying away from NPSIA because they don't want a 'bubble' and the same of type of people in GAC. They suggested trying to specialize in a region, field, or interest because specialization shows expertise in an area. They also said there were some co-op GAC students in NPSIA that never got bridged into full-term roles in GAC. I think there is some merit to this but I also know someone who's working in GAC that said there's still a lot of people from NPSIA and its well known. This is why I am still choosing to go there but am worried about the future a little.
  13. I looked into it and I couldn't really find anything in depth about those fields of concentrations I am guessing it just identifies what kind of classes you'd be taking. So if you chose public policy then you'd be taking some public policy classes. Found this on the website: Elective seminars - The elective seminars are grouped under three fields of concentration: public policy, international affairs, and development studies.
  14. That's the thing though, uozone has no where that I can upload the documents. I can only update my references, that's all. Edit: Actually I just figured it out, you need to go to uodoc or something. Wow the UOttawa portal is so badly designed. Feels like the website was made by a student.
  15. Mine is about 2 pages not double-spaced. Does anyone know where we submit our letter of intent, transcript & resume? Is it on the website or do we mail it in?
  16. You're right! It is due on the 31st! I don't know why I thought it was on the 13th. Glad to know I have a bit more time. What kind of references are you using? I heard both professional and academic references are important for NPSIA but for GSPIA and other programs academic is better.
  17. Hey there I saw on the website that the deadline for UOttawa in GSPIA is actually Feb. 1, so you have a little bit more time! It's only NPSIA that's Jan. 13 (on my birthday, just my luck haha)
  18. What are you guys generally writing about in your statement of intent? Should I be contacting profs and talking about wanting to work with them?
  19. I am also applying at NPSIA, Munk & UOttawa (MA in Public and International Affairs). What kind of references are you guys using? I also am just getting started on my letter of intent and wish I'd have started earlier :( Would anyone have any idea if they only look at cumulative grades or grades from last two years? I am doing well in my last two years but my cumulative GPA is not super high. I did some internships with a think-tank, the provincial govt. & with Canada Border Services.
  20. Would anyone happen to know which GPA NPSIA looks at during their selection process. I've heard they look at the last 2 year's grades or that they look at overall grade from all 4 years of Undergraduate. I am curious because my overall GPA from my degree is not that high but my GPA from the last 2 years is a lot better. I am planning on applying for Fall 2019 and would love to hear some insights on their GPA requirements and whether they only look at GPA or extracurriculars/professional requirements?
