  1. Hi. I got accepted during my second time applying. The first time last year I applied to 4 schools and got 3 waitlists, 1 rejection (the rejection was from my undergrad school). The second time was this past fall. I applied to 9 schools (none from last cycle/all new ones). I got an acceptance from 1 school and now I'm in my new city waiting for school to start in January. The other 8 were a mixture of a few rejections, 1 waitlist, and some I don't know because I told them no before getting an answer after I accepted my current school. So after 13 total schools, I only got 1 official yes. My main advice is to apply to as many schools as possible. The schools that I had the best odds at said no. One of those schools had a 1/3 chance of acceptance, which is pretty good for this field. For my second round, I retook the gre after studying intensely for 6 weeks. I rewrote my essays. In the essay for the school that accepted me, one of the prompts was why I wanted to go there. So I wrote about a combination of stuff from their website that attracted me, and features about the area (the school is in Iowa and Iowa was ranked the best state to live in this year so I told them that). So try to find non scholastic reason to go to a school. Make the school feel special for being in a great city/region/state. I don't know if this helped me get in but it didn't hurt either. Also something I did different this time was being more specific about why I wanted to be an slp. They need to know you've thought this through and that you're serious. Good Luck ?
  2. Yes. I received an interview offer on October 8th. I declined it because I’ve accepted an offer of admission elsewhere. Based off their letter, it seems that they interview more than they accept, and probably waitlist the rest. In the application, they said they only interview finalists. Sorry. I hope you get in somewhere.
  3. I just got accepted into the University of Northern Iowa!!! Second round applying, so excited.
  4. Schools do not start accepting applicants before the deadline. I don’t know of any slp grad programs that do this. Some schools even tell you what day they will start reviewing applications. From the schools that have specified a date, it’s usually a few days to a few weeks after the deadline before they even look at them. You should check out the results page here on gradcafe. I use the search term “speech” or add part of the name of the school like “speech Idaho” to see when other people from previous years heard back. You’ll see that no one was getting accepted early (I think) and it gives you an idea of when you can expect an answer.
  5. This is my second round applying, and I applied to 9 schools: University of Northern Iowa, Kansas State University, Eastern New Mexico University, University of Central Missouri, University of South Dakota, University of Rhode Island, University of Central Florida, University of Texas at Dallas, & University of Louisiana at Monroe.
  6. Hello! I am applying for spring 2019 speech language pathology graduate programs. Many of the forums I’ve seen are for fall applicants, so I thought I would create one for those of us applying to spring admit programs. Most of the due dates have passed now, so I’m just waiting each day for some good news. -Where did you apply? -Any thoughts or concerns?
