  1. ? Sorry to hear that. It was always kind of an expected rejection for me since it was the only school I applied to without contacting my POI first. It wasn't the best fit, though I think my POI there would be a good mentor for my project.
  2. I guess Princeton is starting to send out decisions... ?
  3. The first one does feel really good! Congratulations!
  4. Yeah I'm expecting them to release decisions at the end of this week.

    New Haven, CT

I was also admitted to Yale and I'm starting to look at apartments too. I'm certainly not an insider, but I read the reviews of 360 state on Yelp (https://www.yelp.com/biz/360-state-street-new-haven-3) and decided it wouldn't be ideal for me because of the complaints about the noise. I've lived in a building with paper thin walls as an undergraduate and it made life incredibly difficult! I'll post on here if I find any buildings that sound decent. I am also wondering when would be the ideal time to start contacting buildings about availability... I know in my current city August and July are incredibly competitive months to try to secure an apartment, but in a smaller city like New Haven this might not be the case.
  6. Thank you! Yes, I have a lot to think about already, but I am still quite anxious to hear back from the other two. HEAL is probably tied with Yale for my top choice program. Hopefully this week most of the remaining programs will release decisions and this process can finally end ?
  7. I was - It was such a nice touch! Are any of you Yale admittees planning on going to the visit day on the 3rd and 4th?
  8. Congratulations!! I'm doing Japanese History.
  9. Oh my god I got into Yale!!!!!!
  10. For the past 3 years Yale has consistently released their decisions on the 7th and 8th of February... ?
  11. It's still very early so don't count yourself out yet! I've only received a decision from one program myself (I was accepted to Northwestern's History department). Judging from past additions to the results page, most schools don't start sending decisions until the first two weeks of February, so hopefully we'll start hearing back from schools in the next two weeks! But waiting is certainly very nerve-wracking! I'm wondering if I've missed the boat on HEAL since a few people on the History side of this forum have gotten decisions from the History department at Harvard already... but perhaps they are handled separately. I hope they are!
  12. I think (judging from UChicago history at least) they are delayed in sending out decisions because of the snowstorm last week. I think we'll probably hear from the history department this week, so perhaps you'll hear from EALC soon too!
  13. For Northwestern I got the acceptance notification first and a few hours later I got information about funding.
  14. I kind of wish graduate school application portals worked the same way as postal service tracking. Like you would know when your file passed through here and there, if it's awaiting delivery to the ad comm, if its on its way to the waitlist pile, etc. etc.
  15. I just got my first decision! I was accepted to Northwestern! I'm thrilled!
  16. Thank you! I talked to my POI on the phone earlier in the month and the department sounds like it has a fantastic environment. I will definitely reach out to you if I get in. And I certainly hope I do!
  17. Thank you for this! I was expecting Northwestern to release results this week (and UChicago as well), so it is good to know that they might be delayed.
  18. This is a very old thread, but The University of Wisconsin-Madison offers an online reading and translation course in Italian for the stated purpose of passing graduate language requirements. https://continuingstudies.wisc.edu/classes/italian-reading-translation-online/ The textbook for the course is available for free online if you wanted to self study: https://courses.dcs.wisc.edu/wp/readingitalian/?_ga=2.145315127.2057915662.1548527592-499873767.1547504438
  19. It was over Skype with just my POI. My POI mentioned that he and his "colleagues" had read and liked my application, but like @daradara said in his post, I'm not sure whether he means just those professors in my sub-field or that the general committee had read my application before the interview.
  20. This was kind of my experience (I also got invited to a Yale interview last weekend). It was about 50 minutes long and I was asked about my project (where I see it going, how I got interested in it), my interest in history, and about language training, but the questions were mostly fairly casual.
