  1. I havent have a good night of sleep in a while. Currently, I am learning how to write and its difficult. I tend to wake up in the middle of the night just because my brain decided that there are some rules/perspectives about writing that I need to "write down". Since I am currently in Alaska, I check my emails as soon as I wake up, since most of the day has passed in the lower 48. Finally, I can't wait for this process to be over; I wish you all a great and joyful year!
  2. This post is mostly those who are now in a PhD program! How did you handle: recieving or not recieving interview, being accepted/waitlisted/rejected. What would you tell your younger self during that time. For those who are currently going through this process, what do you think you will tell yourself, once this is all over? The purpose of this is to share some good vibes and advices
  3. French salad
  4. Fried egg
  5. In the end, this is your life and it should be lived as such. Do what makes you happy! Noonene is going to crucify you for making a choice based on your happiness. Cheers ❤️
  6. Black face white mask; great book that looks at the effects of white colonization on black people in a psychoanatytic way.
  7. Most people aren't mean I think. If you dont have a teaching requirement you should be fine. If you need to practice english, get one of those speaking software or go on youtube and learn about how american pronounce certain words. Do let it affect you too much! Rock the interview!
  8. To future applicants: You will not hear anything from these schools(Harvard, Uchicago) unless you are admitted or interviewed. So keep that in mind when you choose with schools to apply. Had I known it would be like this I would have selected different schools. Feel free to apply to them if you still wish.
  9. I think I know how you feel but there is not an exact formula of GPA/research experience. Different schools want different things that's why you apply to more than one(try to contact the schools and ask them where can you improve your application). In your case, 12 might have been too much, quality is more important than quantity. NIH IRTA is pretty much first come first served and it doesn't have to do with your credentials. As long as you think research the right path for you, you will persevere and finally obtain it. Look into some lab tech jobs if that's an option. I wish you the best of luck.
  10. I don't want to be back here, def not for that! too much anxiety and unnecessary personal profile comparisons. Yall have a good life, maybe I'll meet some of yall at ABRCMS. I feel like they should have an NIH prep meet and greet. Message to future applicants: don't lose hope, it may seem like the obvious choice to make at times but don't! This route may not work but if you keep trying, you will def be a better position for success. NK Advocate out! *mic drop*
  11. Committed to UIC PREP and will be removing apps from places I interviewed( Uchicago, Tufts). Hopes it helps someone. So long, gradcafe!
  12. its okay bro, some of us still don't have a place to go.
  13. It seems like Tufts is hosting 2 interviews one with a potential mentor one with the director. Why? IDK.
  14. I know, i was wondering if more info was out there
  15. Got out of the interview this morning. I lost my train of thought some many times I wouldn't be surprised if they thought I had some kind of mental disability. They were still pretty responsive to my comments/questions/jokes, so maybe it wasn't so bad.
  16. It's too early to have a particular grad school in mind, people change drastically in college. Just focus on your grades and building a good resume. Idk what that would look like in your field but look around.
  17. congrats! Anyone has news on Uchicago? Harvard?
  18. Them: We updated your admission profile! log in to this link to see your result! Me: ------_______-----
  19. Sometimes you ruin my day...But thanks for the updates still.
  20. I am really happy, the post that I created a while back brought so many of us together! Please once again come back and tell us where you are going when you know! It looks like we have a few people at upenn, jhu, case! We are almost there. For those who have yet to get anything, don't lose hope your time is coming
  21. What questions were yall asked during interviews?? Also, can we all come back to this site on April 15 to tell where/what were are doing? so that people in the same area can meet/roommates!
  22. I agree! What I am saying this that as urm that are moving in positions of power, we should not be content with just expanding the frontier of human knowledge. And that we more than anyone should look back to help others (that can take place in many forms, I am not telling you should become Nelson Mandella or Mother Theressa). That's just my point of view but everyone is free to do as they wished. My thoughts reflect upon my interactions with the African American community. I am not sure how other communities are but I am always willing to learn.
  23. There as also issues with current medical practice. Anyone who has shadowed a doctor will tell you that. Involvement with the community should not be delegated to a group of people, because we are all stakeholders of that community. I get it it's not easy, but it is well worth the time. Also, MD can choose to only do research so just picking an MD does not mean that you are directly making your community better. There are clearly issues on both sides.
  24. This is my issue, I am heavily invested in the community that I take part in, so I can really do either. That's was my problem with research, it feels disconnected from the people, even in the biomedical field. To me, it is too easy to just focus on your lab work and yes you produce usable info, but how are you making that information more understandable to the public, and in our case to the underrepresented communities which by far faces the most health disparities. Maybe this is why I haven't gotten any interviews because my commitment isn't to science, it is to the people who benefit from it. So to you future doctors, please attempt to reach out to communities and share your passion!
  25. Did you have an interview with jhu or did they admit you without one? TBH I kinda don't wanna do research next year and go to the peace corp! We shall see
