Just my 2 cents, We are likely to see to notice the differences rather than the similarities. Therefore, it is easier to overestimate th differences rather than the similarities. I dont know if there is a exact name for this. But here is my thought.

I have a 3.25 gpa. I had a rough start but I had a 4.0 my last year of undergrad. I have been in a postbacc program for 1 year and I am staying for another year. So I do not know if taking the Bio GRE is worth it. I will be applying to mostly difficult to get into but believe my experience outside of undregrad is what will set me apart. So just looking for opinions. * I recieved an interview offer from Brown last cycle, but It didnt work out in the end.

Sorry to hear about this! Ask if they can admit you this upcoming cycle without applying

There are fellowship out there for everyone(NSF GRFP/ NIH F31). Applying would be a waste of time as they keep track on who they give the money to (thats how they see how impactful the program is). Then again you could always lie about your nationality but that is not worth it. So in summary: there are other fellowships out there for everyone.

So, here we are, in full panic mode!! Some of us got into schools this cycle, congrats. You might have commited to a school already. You might have had crystal clear plans. You might have even order school apparels to flex or because you like how they look like. But now things are not so clear. Please let us know how the virus and the subsequent "quarantine effects" have affected your choice or plan for grad school.

You should write down the message you would like to convey to him. Write it down so that you have a better idea of what you want to say to him the next time you meet with him. Maybe his style of mentorship does not work for you, therefore it is incumbent upon you to explain what works for you and him to try to satisfy your needs. That's what a good mentor would do. If things do not work out, dont be afraid to switch labs. But I warn you, it may be frowned upon.
