All up to you! if you think it's worth a shot, then do it!
-
I am on to you .....
-
Hey, thats not how you play the game
-
You should contact them and ask them what this is about.... Sorry dude

What if these were the attributes they were looking? At the end of the day, people want colleagues, and would rather work with humans then robots. If you yourself dont belive that you got in. Then that's that. You create what you see in the world. I would suggest that moving forward you remain postive about the outcome. Trying to prepare yourself for the worst, results in the worst happening. Breath, take break, relax, no matter what happens this year, life will go on, you will figure things out. Good luck! **** this is my last post of the day!

Yes, Let me put on my "Gradcafe" witness outfit on, and preach the usefullness of this website from door to door.

My loyalty lies with Gradcafe!

SO, If I am hearing you corretly, I should have put Gradcafe level "Latte" as an accomplishement in my applications? *** I am being facetious.
-
I keep hearing about how the applicant pools have double/tripled but where are they? In my 3 years of being on GradCafe this is the quietest it has been. So, is there a new website that's popping or are these applicants just ghosts or people are drastically overestimating the amount of people who actually applied? Anyone please chime in On the bright side it seems like schools are interviewing a third more candidates because interviews are virtual and cheaper. It's not all bad I guess. I am excited for these virtual interviews; I cant wait to see what different schools have in store for us. I live in Chicago , would anyone be interested in video tour of the big Chicago campuses (UIC, UChicago, Northwestern)?

Contact potential advisors right before deadline?

THE WOOORLDDO! Different PI will have different reaction. There is not a "normal" reaction to this. I would suggest sending 1-2 emails and see the type of reply you get. Dont forget, its holliday season, so dont expect replies. It has been a long year so people are probably going to try to enjoy family time and prepare for post-covid time. Good luck! -

Neither, just go in have a conversation about the program, your interest, their work. Make a good impression of course. If you get them again during intervew, your job would be way easier. Good Luck! -
Apps are done! Now what? Emotional support time!
nęm0 replied to pomegranateleaves's topic in Psychology Forum
You are making my point. You can take my message as "coming to the US has now become more dependent on external funding because of Covid". Keep also in mind how national institution like the NIH is keeping greater track of who is getting funded from "non US sources". Overall it promotes a bad enviroment, not to mention the racial part. So, I restate my point: I hope for your sake you are not: 1. An international student, I dont have anything against them(they are just more Americans who are fighting for the spots, more American means more potential funding for the school) 2. Trying to go to school on the opposite coast.- 51 replies

Although they may receive more applicantions, the schools are likely going to extend offers to those who live near by, since there is a greater chance of them attending. So I hope for your sake you are not: 1. An international student, I dont have anything against them(they are just more Americans who are fighting for the spots, more American means more potential funding for the school) 2. Trying to go to school on the opposite coast *** I feel bad for international student since things were already difficult for them.- 51 replies

No, I am saying is that there is only two outcome. You get in or you don't. Everyone has the same outcomes. There is too much "unknown" with the application strength, it depends on who they want in their program. You may think you are a good fit, or have a strong application but they may not, in the end that's all that matters. So unless you ask them directly how strong you application is, any self evaluation is wrong.
-
If you dont like you scores don't send it. You are chances as as good as anybody else 50/50. You get in or you don't. I think the only thing they care about is really fit. So when you write your essay make sure you emphize on fit, yes they know how good their program are, but how do you add to it, I dont think they want all "A's" student because that does not tell me that you can think. They want a diverse cohort, people who can support each other and not just different flavors of ice cream. Finally best of luck, leaving Europe during the pandemic might be hard but I hope you end up in a good place! Chiao

You stats look really good but there is more to an application than that. If you are applying this cycle, I would focus really on fit. if you are not, I would explore a bit more with your research. Biostat programs are well funded and some program might not require you to take biology classes, you would just handle the data.

I can look at your stuff! I am a microbiologist tho but I have some biochemistry background

There are plenty of examples online but I would advise against it. As long as you answer the question from the prompt, it is all that matters. You should use the statement of purpose to show a part of yourself. Getting too much input from others, may skew your choices.

Google: Good question to ask PI, see which one fits you best, go from there
