Ok so I think I need to find a way to block gradcafe from my browser for like a day... I swear when this whole process is over I will STILL be checking every 30 minutes out of habit. Because, you know, knowing about one of the schools I applied to contacting applicants RIGHT NOW is so much more important than getting shit done in my day ?

Yes!!! I feel like you mostly see acceptances/successes on this website, which makes those who have been rejected feel more alone when, in fact, they aren't. I will be part of this pact to normalize rejection and will let ya'll know if/when I am rejected! Thank you @higaisha for saying this!

Falls in line with the whole, work for free for years to 'gain experience' in a good lab that's relevant to what you want to do, work for 15-25k a year in stipends for another 5 years just to get a PhD, and work for a salary that your friends were getting 2 years out of undergrad. You know. Screw the $50-100 that you spent on the application + hours researching and crafting a personal statement.
Seriously. Lower ranked programs (if ranking is important) have dates on the same day, too. Like, yeah, shoot yourself in the foot by inviting students on the same day as a top 10 program. Let's see what candidates pick.

I'm sorry to hear, pals!!! I love the support that is coming from this page though - the transparency about rejections and successes is helpful. Feels good to have a group to go through this with! It's my second round of applications and it's feeling pretty demoralizing at the moment lol
@higaishaand @neurocait, was the UBC-V, may I ask whether it seemed to be mass email that was sent out? Just bracing myself!!

FRICKITY FRACK IS MY MOOD ALL JANUARY
Btw y'all, I got rejected after Skype interview by 1 POI at Rye and 1 POI at Queen's. Normalizing rejection! It's nothing to be afraid of, and I encourage people to share their rejections as well as their acceptances and interviews here. Being turned down is part of the process, but you gotta dust yourself off and try again.

what the frickity FRACK man, I knew their short-short list was tight but damn seems no one on gradcafe even got a prelim. I think my POI is going slower than others, just my hunch.

I can't remember the source of this list, but I downloaded it last year from an association or society focused on child clinical psychology.
Hope this is helpful! I'll try to track down the source and post it here if I can find it.

I'm less clear on funding, but do know of graduate students from the states with funding -- it's just a little more complicated. I know that York (in Toronto), Simon Fraser University (in Vancouver), and University of Guelph (in Guelph, Ontario) all have child specific programs. However, across programs that are not child specific there are also individuals working on research that is focused on parent/child outcomes that would be well worth applying to. In the US, Minnesota has an amazing group of child-focused faculty, as does the University of Oregon.

If you did want to consider international programs, Rebecca Pillai-Riddell at York University in Toronto does interesting work on infant/caregiver mental health.

Nothing yet! But Friday last week I got an email from the grad program secretary asking about some parts of my application for clarification, so I would assume the admissions committee are just getting to looking at them now. But not positive!

I would add that it's also sometimes a case of serendipity/right fit at the right time. The factors playing in to why some people are admitted and others are not can be inconsistent and unpredictable. It could be the case that the POIs you applied to had students who they already had connections with apply to them, their pile of applicants was stronger than previous years and they could only choose 1 or 2, etc. Of course, strengthening your application and CV are always going to help you out in the long run, and I would suggest trying again next year! Particularly if you have a pub in the works and can continue working within research.
Try your best not to take it personally, and keep in mind there is always a lot of moving parts involved with getting accepted or rejected!
