Older, unconventional background applicants unite!!!!! WOHOOO! We have sooooo much, real life experience to talk about (vs. younger applicants, straight out of undergrad)- use it to your favor! Tie in stories, experiences with patients + any other unique, life experiences that sparked your curiosity, and make the faculty (and ultimately PI) REMEMBER your stories!
This is what one of my advisors told me, and I’m honestly sooooo pumped! ? You are going to do amazing, they picked you to interview for a reason- stop over thinking it!!!! ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

    It is diabolical.
But yeah, follow the link @Neurophilic posted and you can filter your search results by searching keywords. For example, I usually input "clinical" as a key word. Then, it sorts the results from new posts to old, so you can check each day and see the most recent results.

I PM-ed Magnolias to check if we have the same POI at York, but I guess he or she is busy preparing for interview, which I don't blame them at all
But yeah, I also assumed rejection since the Open House will be mid February (according to several sources). We'll just wait a bit more and see.

I think the main issue, similar to why there are a certain number of spots for med school, is due to the lack of internship placements available. Rather unfortunate.

From what I've understood, the training is very expensive for departments and there's less and less funding being provided by universities and governments for it. At least that's the situation in my program right now. There's also a big push to have a lot of psychologist positions filled by Master's level clinicians and social workers because in the long run, they're cheaper than PhD level practitioners.

Finally made an account after a few weeks of....browsing (min 5 times a day, that's not exactly obsessive right?). You're all lovely beings who have unbeknownst to you all, been helping me maintain some semblance of sanity. So thank you for being so transparent, kind, and helpful! Wondering if anyone has officially heard from UTSC and specifically if anyone applied to work under Dr. Zindel Segal?

I feel both of you. Having a partner to factor in is so difficult and makes this process even more painful because you are altering another person's life with your decision. I have heard people say to not take into account your partner's preferences with locations, but COME ON... how can you not consider the other person when they are a huge part of your life and support system.

Oh I feel this so much!! I'm kind of having the opposite dilemma.  I have been offered two interviews so far and one is my top choice program, but my husband has definitely voiced that its in a place he does not want to live, and the other is a good sounding program (but not my top pick) in an area that he absolutely loves.
While I know he will move wherever I decide and we will be happy no matter where we live, it does add an extra layer of stress knowing that it is somewhere that they have to live, work, and find friends in.
It almost makes me hope that I only get one admissions offer so I don't have to make that choice ?

Agreed about it easing minds, I've written off 2 schools so far (Dal and Concordia) because it sounds like the interview days have already happened, but it'd be nice to know officially if that's the case.
I did emphasize in my replies back that it wasn't a reflection of my interest in the program, just an unfortunate scheduling issue - hopefully it won't be a factor in deciding acceptances. The guides I posted above suggested that POIs do understand this happens, like you said

Aghhh that blows! I haven't had this come up yet, but I can imagine how much of a bummer that would be, especially if you booked flights to another interview already and weren't given the opportunity to actually decide which to attend due to timing of invites. I feel like POIs should be understanding about this, especially if you emphasize your disappointment in not being able to meet them and that it was just a matter of bad timing. I agree about Canadian schools posting interview days! It would not only help people be aware of potential conflicts, but also help to ease some people's minds about when to expect to hear back...

Stats as in our GPAs/pubs/etc.? I mean, I hear what you're saying and that would be helpful for people who plan to apply in the future for getting their applications up to snuff, but I can also see that becoming a bit of a pissing contest. I think most people on here would agree that having a GPA > 3.6, relatively high GRE scores (over 70th percentile in verbal and over 50th in quant), publication/s (either fully published or in the works), conference presentations/posters, and work as an RA are all important pieces to an application. However, stats are not the only thing that will explain how someone got in/got an interview. There are other unquantifiable things that often play into getting in (e.g., connections to the PI, research fit, letters of rec, general personality fit, etc.) For example, I know people who got in without any publications, or no conference presentations, or with quantitative GRE scores below the 35th percentile.
I'm totally fine if others want to share their stats, and am willing to share mine as well, but it makes me uneasy about how everyone sharing this info could make others feel who are currently waiting to hear back.

Interesting idea, I know that in med/law schools they have hundreds of applicants for hundreds of spots and they generally accept straight out of undergrad + MCAT or LSAT. In this way, I think stats are much more straightforward and comparable for med/law...including the bigger sample size

There are far fewer applicants for clinical psych (and only a handful who are active on this forum) and they have a huge range of experience (working in the prof's lab, another Master's, another PhD sometimes, clinical experience, volunteering etc.) There's also the huge factor of research interest and POI fit. It wouldn't be fair to compare your stats to that of another candidate because there are so many variables.
