  1. I graduate next month with my M.S. I was rejected from all 4 PhD schools I applied to so now I am trying to find research assistant jobs. But I am so lost! Do I check job sites like Indeed/LinkedIn? Should I email the POI's I was in contact with before receiving my rejection letters?
  2. I completely understand you circumstances, I was in the same last year. I would suggest looking into programs that have dropped the GRE or made the GRE optional. You can still apply to schools that desire specific GRE percentiles if you are willing to risk the time and money put into the application. It doesn't hurt to call schools and ask them if the GRE is required, recommended or dropped.
  3. Around Late February I had a strong feeling I wasn’t chosen as GEM full fellow, so I barely made the deadline for an internship with another lab and I’m so glad I did. At this point I think it’s completely safe to seek other opportunities for the summer.
  4. This is so sad. I was hoping it wouldn’t come to this.. Is it irrational to think that these programs will automatically admit you for Spring 2021? It’s the least they could do
  5. NCSU sent out some rejections (for PhD) this previous week, I was one of them. I’d think if you haven’t heard anything from them yet then you’re in a good running. Good luck!
  6. I recently been notified that I won a $1,000 scholarship. The deadline to verify the scholarship is April 17th and I have to submit which school I am attending. I still have not heard anything from 2 of the schools I applied to. Should I call/email the schools that I am still waiting to hear from and tell the news? Also, I was wait-listed at another school, should I call/email them as well?
  7. Isn't tomorrow (March 15th) the day we receive decisions on whether or not we received a GEM full/associate/university fellowship?
  8. No they will not inform your references. It is up to you to communicate with your references whether you were accepted/rejected. I told my references in the past when I was rejected, for moral support
  9. I haven’t heard anything either. I emailed my POI at OSU today, just to ask when the department may send out decisions. Maybe slow application season?
  10. https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1ZUZowZJ25DtqCgr3kK_Ief1C0YOnrZeADcm4K81bq08/htmlview
  11. GREexit are schools who are either 1) making the GRE optional for applicants 2) not accepting GRE scores at all. When I applied this cycle, a friend sent me a data base of universities in the US who are participating in GREexit and it was a good chunk of schools , at least 30.
  12. I applied to 4 schools and still haven’t heard anything. My biggest concern is what if I don’t hear from any of them until April? I work during the summer so my time would be extremely limited to find housing (all 4 schools are out of state) and furniture. It’s just inconsiderate to make us wait for so long?.
  13. It’s not too late. I know some schools are not releasing updates in applications until March 1st. Other schools who have already sent approvals, are just waiting for their first picks to confirm or deny (usually early March deadline too) before sending out notifications to others. I wouldn’t worry about it too much right now
  14. I haven't heard from Ohio State since early December when my POI confirmed that the school received my GRE scores.
  15. Whew, this post is so relatable! We're in the same boat. I am interested to see the responses because I would love to try to negotiate funding for one of my choices
  16. Has anyone heard back from UT-Austin? I think I've been wait listed or possibly denied, I submitted my application early November and still have not heard anything.
  17. Same as the @Gatech_ST said. I know the absolute deadline to the university you plan to attend is April 15th.
  18. No. March 15/16 is when they will send acceptance or denial notifications.
  19. Has anyone had the schools they applied to confirm their submitted application to GEM? I'm getting nervous because I applied to 4 of the GEM schools in November and none of them have confirmed yet?
  20. None of the 4 schools I applied to have yet...and I submitted the last one December 3rd. I am planning to send out emails next Monday.
  21. I feel your pain. I think I am more so terrified of choosing the wrong school (trying to stay optimistic). I don't want to have a repeat of my undergraduate years. My undergrad institution was a party school, 2 hours from any city life, and very conservative. I spent my last year alone, always in my apartment and it negatively impacted my grades. I had no confidant, basically no close friends and no lab mates to study with (they were very cliquey). I am IN LOVE with one of the schools I applied to. I visited 3 times. If i get rejected from that one institution, I am scared the other potential 3 may not be the best fit for me and I'll just find myself sad and isolated again...for 5 years!
  22. I'm just tense. Nothing is going on "my timing". I was expecting to hear back from two schools I applied to by now (potential advisors told me I'll hear back around Christmas). My now ex-boyfriend dumped me while we were on vacation last week, and I was hoping not to go through the PhD journey alone. A fellowship I applied to back in September is greatly stalling the decisions. I really want to book a one way flight to an island, I have the money, but I'm on my last semester of graduate school. I have to keep pushing but I'm very uncomfortable.
  23. Definitely travel! Try something new by stepping out of your comfort zone. The summer from undergraduate to graduate school, I dared myself to enroll in a pole dancing class (Groupon) and challenged myself to go to the gym 5 days a week for 8 weeks straight. I even joined a book club and learned how to paint! The wait may seem long, but it may fly by faster than you think! Try to enjoy it while it lasts
  24. I only applied to 4. Would have been 7 but the potential advisers at the other 3 schools did not make my cuts.
  25. Me. I got "matched" the week before Christmas but never received an email/call for an interview. I wouldn't worry about it, unless you were really looking forward to the summer internship. You can still receive the fellowship as an associate, which covers tuition and stipend. You just don't get a summer internship and you don't get the university fees covered.
