Only Columbia is late right. Yale last year was around this time too.

My first post here. I had been following what people were saying, and attempting to shore up my deflated morale. Applied to Princeton, Harvard, Brown, UPenn, Johns Hopkins SAIS, Michigan Ann Arbor, UVA and McGill in CP. Had written to POIs at these places and they had written back saying they thought the proposal was a good one. GRE was ok V:168,Q:163, AW: 4.5, one joint published paper, but no conference work. I did have 5 years of work experience relevant to the field I was proposing my topic in; some POIs even highlighted this point as a strong part of my application.
Two months of intense tension later, I have rejects from Princeton, Brown, Ann Arbor, UVA and possibly McGill. Any attempt to email said POIs is returned by a ‘sorry we had too many applicants’ rather than how to improve the application. I am expecting rejections from the last three as well, Harvard was a bit of a stretch in any case.
Thanks a lot to people like Tedmonkey, for putting out how to try and get back at this application process. I’m at a total loss right now, after having put in almost 8 months of concerted effort building every part of the application. I don’t know, at this point, what I can do to make it better...
In any case, if there are people like me here, who got wiped out this application cycle, and who are trying to get back on the application cycle, maybe we could create a separate thread and support each other over the next year, which I have all reason to believe, will be brutal.

Duke's is not generally 37k lol. Maybe after winning an NSF award or some other fellowship or negotiating but the standard package (summer funding not included, because I think that's only guaranteed at that particular rate for one year) is substantially less than 30k.
Their funding package is weird to read but the base 9 month stipend is about 24k.

I don’t have an answer for you but it’s comforting that others share my dilemma.  I ignored one and feel okay about it.

I think we will hear from them next week hopefully! Had applied under theory and comparative as subfields at Yale. Only hope now.

I found reading academic papers helpful. They help me formulate research ideas and remind me of why I wanted to do this in the first place. Took a lot of stress off my shoulders in the past few weeks. Best of luck!

Don't think they did. Good luck!! I've heard mixed things about the department as a whole though... Would love to get more thoughts on where Yale stands among the CHYMPS schools.

I wish there was a 'solidarity' response - I don't want to 'like' your post, because that sucks. As people have been saying, though, this forum is 100% self-selected - you're certainly not the only one in your position. The process is such a crap-shoot (hell, I'm still waiting to hear back from anywhere, so I could very well be joining you in a few weeks), and it doesn't reflect upon who you are or what you're going to do. This whole process is so brutal, and I wish you success in whatever direction you choose to go after this. At the very least, you've got closure and are released from the endless cycle of refreshing and worrying! It's not much, but it's something.

I'm not sure as to whether I'll be there, but I checked with a friend who's from the area originally, and he recommended Amtrak.

Hey gang. Sitting in the middle of a snowstorm atm plugging away on school stuff and trying unsuccessfully to distract myself from my inbox. I'm reading some of the comments above and it's making my heart full. Everyone here is a smart, capable scholar who will find success no matter the result of this application cycle, and I hope everyone's managing to keep it level, regardless of the # of acceptances. Keep on digging through!

The admission process is sometimes totally unpredictable, so don't take it too personally. I hope everything works out for you!

I just heard back from the graduate coordinator at Cornell. She said admission decisions should be out by the beginning of next week. Cornell's my absolute dream school, so.. fingers crossed!

I haven't been in the position to ask/answer questions at this stage in the process (haven't heard from any schools yet, except one wait list), but I'm am executive at a political consulting firm, so I field a lot of questions from people who are looking to go into the field and I interview a lot of people for jobs. One question that I think translates well to email is "what is something that I should know about your school that I can't tell from reading about it?" Or something to that extent. That type of question is open-ended enough that people can answer the questions any way they want. Their answer often ends up telling me more about the question answerer than the institution itself, which can be informative if the professor is someone that you might work with.

I think this is very bad advice.  Please use Professor or Dr.  As someone who has worked in a professional work environment for many years it would be a big mistake to assume these professors are now your friends.  They just gave you the biggest opportunity of your life - now you have to earn your keep.
