redsubywa got a reaction from KittyPlaut in Final Outcomes
Only got the one acceptance (and two waitlists), but luckily it was my top choice! I'm finishing up an MA at Boston College, and I'm thrilled to continue on to their PhD.

Declining waitlist spots at Stony Brook and Fordham. Hope it helps!

redsubywa got a reaction from Marcus_Aurelius in Advice for skype interviews
I did a Skype interview a couple of weeks ago (and since received an offer from that institution) and this is what I noticed after the fact - it is incredibly easy to ramble because you don't know when you've sufficiently answered their question.
But I'd also say that you don't have to worry too much about delving into your research / potential project. I could tell that my interviewers (about six people at once) had specific issues they wanted to cover, but they also wanted to get a general sense of your personality: Are you someone they'd get along with? Would you be decent in a classroom? Would you fit the department from a social and not merely academic perspective?

redsubywa got a reaction from Duns Eith in openness to working outside of academia
I've actually been told (by a faculty member on an admissions committee) that it can be helpful to state your openness to jobs outside of academia because it demonstrates that you know how competitive the TT job market is.

redsubywa got a reaction from Fontanabush in To MA or nah?
For what it's worth, Gonzaga University has a terminal MA in Philosophy that is pretty good for continental philosophy. It's not fully funded, but it has many more opportunities for funding / assistantships / financial aid / etc. than most Philosophy MAs.

redsubywa got a reaction from antianticlimacus in Some Questions from a Phil Outsider
Yeah, that's understandable. I'm in a very continental department, and my fellows are usually quite fair to analytics as well - I think the "debate" is significantly less of a thing than it was 10-20 years ago.

redsubywa got a reaction from antianticlimacus in Acceptances
That one is mine! I'm not sure if they've sent all their acceptances out yet, but I know the list has been finalized (for PhD - not sure about MA).

redsubywa got a reaction from Fontanabush in Acceptances
For what it's worth, I'm in the MA program at BC - I don't think the committee had finished their decisions at the point when that "Acceptance" was posted (90% sure).
