  1. WOW. That's unbelievable. not even waitlisted. I am very sorry!
  2. sorry, I forgot to mention. I am in committee 3 and I am applying from the U.S if that helps.
  3. Thanks. I got the extranet login 30 mins ago and it says the results were posted on there 6 days ago.
  4. I got results for sshrc. Rejected. This process makes no sense whatsoever. Two years ago I was wailisted with a 12....This year I got rejected with score of 14.3!!!
  5. Just got the message...failed to get it. Here is what is interesting. Last year I submitted the exact same application and was wait listed with a score of 12.2. This is why I decided to submit the exact same one since it seemed I was so close. However, this year I got a 9.6... actually, arguably this year I had a better application since I had won OGS... but didn't seem to matter.
  6. I can't tell if this makes me feel better... given the human component...its possible then that they may not finish by the end of their work day, which means...another weekend.
  7. In exact same position...and I am also direct applicant (though in the U.S. ) and committee 2... I have only seen one person who won an award from committee 2.
  8. did you find out by email or by login in? congrats btw!
  9. Has ANYONE received an email from SSHRC saying that their results are posted? from what I can tell have people only found out either by longing in themselves or by their department?
  10. I mentioned this in another post, but to my surprise, there were 4 who were transferring out of their current programs that were on Notre Dame's waitlist and some of which had been accepted to U T Austin and UVA. My impression is that transferring is becoming much more common and I think desirable to a certain extent: programs want students to finish in 5 or 6 years, and this will be more likely if you already have one or two years of doctoral studies under your belt.
  11. I will address the assumption that institutions are hesitant of taking transfers from PhD programs: it's simply not true. This is actually something that I had believed before this application season, but I found out, while vising departments this year, that MANY people that were admitted were PhD transfers. One of the people that got accepted at UVA and was waitlisted at Notre Dame was on their 4th year of their Phd (!).
  12. where you in your letter did it specify the committee?
  13. how do you know your ranking on the waitlist?
  14. Hi all, I am from Western and I just got an email saying that I was waitlisted. Does anyone know what are the odds of getting an offer off the waitlist?
  15. I think this varies by Department. Some say 4 pm which really sucks if that's a school in the East Coast but your waiting for a school in the West Coast!
  16. I think these complaints are pretty universal for programs that are publicly funded (i.e. underfunded) institutions; and as you pointed out, the faculty are normally overworked at these places such that it exacerbates the problem (except for the perv stuff, that I have heard of UT before: one professor of mine explicitly told one of my female classmates *not* to go to U.T Austin because of their issues with sexually predatory behavior: she told me she confirmed this with current female students in the program. This was last year).
  17. So this is my first time applying, but it seems to me, given that the deadline is only ten days away, that there hasn't been much movement on waitlists (presumably because most people have not made up their minds and accepted offers). This was confirmed to me by Professor Ott (from UVA) who said yesterday in an email that this is unusually late for people to not have turned down nor have accepted ANY of their (UVA's) offers. I was also struck by the fact that there may be people who are stuck in the following scenario which may stall the process till the very end: Person A may be accepted at NYU but waitlisted at Princeton which happens to be their first choice while person B has conversely been accepted to Princeton and waitlisted at NYU which is their first choice. Under such circumstances, I don't see how you can get the ball rolling except to just accept their offers which they will probably wait until the very end to do so. If many people are in such situations across the top 5 programs (which is not unimaginable), I can imagine the whole thing stalling quite a bit till the very end and people who are at the waitlist at lowered ranked programs being screwed.
  18. You turned down the only acceptances you had? ? edit: NVM
  19. I likewise got an email in early March saying I was 'extremely' likely to receive an offer. I was likewise invited to visit for the preview with a subsidy. However, I have not received any email about the portal, nor is there any update on the portal. FYI I am likely to decline this offer.
  20. That's a silly thing to point out.
