  1. this is for last year, this year is 22-23
  2. yeah what does 'six weeks' mean?
  3. possibly. GWU is a bit tricky, tho not ranked high, it's geographically close to DC, which leads to lots of policy-oriented folks applying.
  4. Yeah, gmail AI rarely filters emails to spam. no luck. It looks like from existing phd students, GWU recruits lots of security, but few PE...
  5. Congrats! Are you seurity? my GWU still under review. IR, PE
  6. From the # of offers from GWU on gc, its cohort size seems normal. BTW, let's all add signiture to show transparency!
  7. this is horrible!! if so, some other schools likely follow.
  8. shoot... just found I wrote "stanford" in my sop submitted to berkeley... ominous..
  9. BTW today I heard a sentence about where you should go: where the supervisors care you the most. You talk with former students. It's 5-7 years of your life and lots of stuff to deal with. I think it makes perfect sence.
  10. earliest like 1/29, 2/1 ish
  11. next week or so should also have duke, gwu, princeton... dont be on anxiety. always have backup
  12. I applied to Duke and GWU but haven't heard anything back. IR. It looks like Duke also required GRE last year so its apps didn't rise significantly. This year for those requireing GRE, the # of apps will return to normal levels i guess; but for those optional, likely same as last year. I also think the cohort size likely come back to normal for many schools. good news for us. But some reapplying this year and more apps per person can add stress.
  13. Does anybody find it strange? There was no spike in # of apps for Duke: https://gradschool.duke.edu/about/statistics/political-science-phd-admissions-and-enrollment-statistics But doubled for Michigan: https://tableau.dsc.umich.edu/t/UM-Public/views/RackhamDoctoralProgramStatistics/ProgramStatistics?:embed=y&:showAppBanner=false&:showShareOptions=true&:display_count=no&:showVizHome=no&FOSDParameter=All+Rackham UCSD: https://ir.ucsd.edu/grad/stats/admissions.html MIT: https://ir.mit.edu/graduate-education-statistics etc. But only for polisci, none of others such as sociology or engineering had spikes. What's wrong with Duke and polisci? only polisci GRE optional?
  14. Thank you so much! I will also focus on some 10-20 schools. I am retaking GRE too. Thank you for your valuable suggestions!
  15. Thanks for the reply! sorry I didn't write clearly. It's 160v 168q, and English is not my native tongue. Agree that the adproc is messy esecially in these two years..

  17. Hi, what about I am not dropping, but instead not finshing it by summer. this is because my MA is designed to be finished in 4 terms (including summer), a small portion can finish within one year which means they need to spend tremendous amount of time, which i dont want to. Therefore if i send them the transcript in the summer, there wont be any withdrawal, but definitely the degree wont be finished.
  18. Thanks, what if the PHD offer has not mentioned any prerequisite, and also do you think sending transcripts before enrollment is just a process to verify previous materials are correct, nothing more meaningful? since the decision is done.
  19. Hello everyone, I have completed an MPA degree in Canada, and will be doing a MA in political science this fall. However I am planning to apply to US PHD program in politics this Dec. I wonder if I hear back from the admision say in Feb, can I choose to drop my MA right away? will PHD programe need me to finish this MA? Please advise.
  20. After days of research, I found gspia is really worth it- less than half of the price of Munk, research oriented, federal govt coop, overseas exchange, generous scholarship, French, etc btw, the best schools in IR in Canada according to a professional survey among Canadians IR experts is: Npsia munk Gpsia
  21. Does anyone know where students usually go for coop in gspia and the percentage?
  22. Got a letter from Ottawa school of social science and I was granted a merit scholarship of 11k, plus gspia 12k, I guess I have to accept gspia. Good luck to all! And start to learn French abc...
  23. Finally, the survey asked Canada’s IR scholars to rank the top three think tanks in Canada. They were not prompted by definitions or specifications of think tanks. The Frasier Institute was mentioned more than twice as much in 2018 as it was in 2014, as was the C.D. Howe Institute and the Canadian Centre for Policy Alternatives. The Canadian Global Affairs Institute was mentioned about as frequently as last time (despite changing its name from the Canadian Defence and Foreign Affairs Institute). The Centre for International Governance Innovation (the publisher of this site) is now ranked second but was mentioned much less frequently. The Canadian International Council was mentioned far less, about as third as often as last time. As a result, there is more consensus about which think tanks are in the top five, but no single think tank stands out that much among the top five. The North-South Institute dropped off, of course, as its funding was killed as the first survey was out in the field.
  24. Canada’s IR scholars were asked which three doctoral programs in Canada they would recommend for an academic career either in political science or international relations: The big three remain quite dominant, each listed at a far greater rate than the others. These three programs are generally the most “American” in terms of outlooks, methodology and past hiring practices — more quantitative, less focused on “critical” security studies, and more willing to hire Americans. The rest were mentioned by four percent of the respondents or less in 2018. (To be clear, some of the institutions, such as the Carleton and Ottawa entries, like last time, may refer to multiple programs, as respondents usually did not distinguish between political science, international affairs and other programs. For the rankings, the survey did not prompt respondents about names of programs — they filled in whatever answers they chose. I then combined the answers for those places where there is more than one program. For PhDs, some schools in Canada have multiple programs, so we listed by school. For MA programs, most programs have distinctive names that respondents listed.) We did ask new questions about what IR scholars are telling students who are thinking of applying for PhD programs. Fifty-four percent would encourage only the “very best students” to pursue a PhD, 13 percent would encourage students not to pursue a PhD, and 29 percent would neither encourage nor discourage. Four percent would choose otherwise. Definitely not a very encouraging environment, which shows that professors are well aware that the pursuit of an academic position in IR these days is quite difficult. When asked if they would recommend students pursue a PhD in the United States rather than in Canada, 39 percent said yes, 25 percent said no, and the rest were uncertain. This is interesting given the somewhat widely held beliefthat having an American PhD makes one more competitive. Like last time, the survey also asked Canada’s IR scholars which MA programs they would recommend for those seeking a career in policy. Again, the results did not change much:
