  1. hi guys, so 2 weeks ago i was waitlisted for my only interview, and my PI just sent me an email to check in and basically say there hasn't been any movement yet for the waitlist. as i understand it it's just not my PI's turn to extend an offer yet. i want to know where she is in the line to extend an offer, seeing as without any other interviews I need to be working on my backup plan, but everytime i try to write an email it sounds really presumptuous 😓 for those of you who have asked about your place in the waitlist, i'm just wondering how you phrased it to help me out a little! also, she as
  2. hi all :~) for those of you who have had interviews already, I'm wondering how in depth you were expected to go for the typical if you had to design your masters thesis etc/or just related questions on what kind of research you want to do..... I definitely can talk about my interests but I'm worried I'll come up short on details and seem ill informed or under prepared 😓I've been doing some reading just trying to formulate something concrete to talk about, but I'm just wondering how much detail professors expected from others regarding like specifics of study design for the research you want to
  3. i think this generally happens after offers for PhD have been extended. schools that do this will also usually wait until all the masters applications are in so they can review everyone at once, so it might be relevant if you can see online when masters applications are due or if they have a timeline for the masters program process posted anywhere! for reference though, boston university (who i applied to last round) also offers you the chance to be considered for the masters. i checked my email and last year i got my rejection notification + invite to masters for them on February 25th, b
  4. hasn't happened to me, but when I was telling the grad students i work with that I thought I was out for a certain school because interview invites had already gone out, they named like 3 people off the top of their head at the program where I work that currently attend grad school there but weren't invited to interview day. they got in because the PI just didn't click with their initial invitees and reached out off their shortlist. i wouldn't say there is a strong chance (just to be a realist), but it does happen!
  5. hi guys! a school i am interviewing for has explicitly asked us if there are any other faculty members (aside from our PI) that we are specifically interested in interviewing with. do you think it looks bad (or maybe not bad but perhaps underprepared) if I don't indicate any preference? there isn't much overlap between my interests and that of the other faculty so I'm not fully sure on what basis to pick other faculty I'd like to interview with but I don't want to sound like I don't care what happens. definitely overthinking this haha but just wondering what others have done :~)

  7. hi, just wondering if you could post/DM PI initials or if this was a mass email? thanks!!
  8. i have seen posts about sending thank you emails after interviews, what about after preliminary phone/skype interviews? is it good to send a thank you after those as well? thanks!
  9. https://grad.admissions.rutgers.edu/GraduateProgram/Detail.aspx?code=16830B&degree=PHD Rutgers does appear to require official transcripts FYI! I think your app may be "completed" with unofficial, but I read somewhere else that they accept unofficial if your official wont be there by the app deadline but it seemed like they still wanted you to send the official.
  10. Last cycle i applied to 12 schools I think, no interviews or anything. The manuscript is something that has changed since last time, as I didn't know they were considering making me an author on this paper when I last applied (so obviously it isnt first author or way up there but still), and other than that just the fact that I have more experience from working full time. I am in a similar boat that my personal interests and lab are pretty aligned too, but even if others don't see this as a weakness I think it might be more of a personal thing that I'm scared to jump into grad school
  11. hello everyone!! i recently graduated undergrad with a psych degree, 2 years research experience and for the next year will be working full time as an RA for the same lab I was with in undergrad. applied for Clinical PhD programs this past cycle with no luck but oh well . I am currently trying to decide several things and was wondering if anyone has input!! the graduate student i work with has been pushing me to retake the GRE and apply again this cycle. my scores were 162 (91%) verbal, 156 quant (61%) and 5 (90%) AW. I know my quant score could stand to go up quite a bit but a lot of p
  12. hi all! I am currently a senior undergrad psych major! I applied for clinical phds this round and unfortunately I didn't get any interviews so I'm coming to terms with the fact that its not gonna work out this year 😞 Fortunately, the lab that I work in has offered me a full-time RA position for next year! This research is definitely what I want to pursue when I eventually try for PhDs again, and since I have been here for two years I am confident that they will give me responsibilities and experiences that will help me out. Unfortunately I was really hoping to move away from the town m
