springxsummer replied to Leafway's topic in Psychology Forum
I’ll be releasing offers for U of A counselling (thesis) And Trinity Western Counselling this evening or tomorrow as I’ve decided to attend somewhere else. DM me if you would like POIs. I hope this frees up a spot for someone on the waitlist ?. -

What is proper etiquette for declining an offer? Should I email my POI in addition to whom ever sent out the letter just to let them know that it was appreciated? -

This is actually a really good, practical suggestion. Thank you. I have a good job now that I am confident I could keep if need be, but it just isn't adding anything to my application, so looking for clinical or research experience would be a really good idea. What will you do if you get an offer before you know about schooling? -

The waiting is the worst part for me, especially because I can't make any plans for my life in the next year until I know where I'll be. Does anyone have tips for getting your mind off of it or dealing with that? I'm finding it especially hard right now because I still have an interview that I'm preparing for, so it's not like I can push it completely aside. I know that no matter what happens I will be okay, but the uncertainty sucks. Do you guys feel like this? Or how are you coping? -
That sounds super weird, but it makes sense that they’d be looking to see how you interact with others... the school I’m applying to has done a lot already to try to get a sense of personality/ counselling qualities. These are good tips, thank you!

Throwing this out there one more time: does anyone have experience with/ tips for group interviews? I have a group skype interview and have no idea what to expect. I wasn't given the option of an in-person interview.

Did they? That was fast! Mine is still under review... -
I have an interview coming up, and this is the description from my invite: "This interview will be conducted by the Admission Committee in a group format with other select candidates applying to the program (also being interviewed remotely). The interview will take approximately one hour. Please be prepared to discuss your goals and interests as they relate to graduate studies in Counselling Psychology." Does anyone have experience with similar interview formats? I'm not sure what to expect with the group format!

*I is stressed* venting thread for Fall 2020 Applicants
springxsummer replied to justacigar's topic in Psychology Forum
I submitted the last of my applications today, and I am going to take the weekend off for a road trip. This process is incredibly stressful sometimes, but It's so important that we take care of ourselves. As someone who has been rejected before, regardless of the outcome, we'll all be okay and life will go on. -

Does anyone know the typical timeline for programs with Jan.31 application deadlines? Specifically, TWU & UNB counselling. -

I applied to Counselling, so a different program but also in the Faculty of Education. Mine still says pre-screening, too. -
Thank you!! The tip about lowering screen brightness to reduce glare on glasses is really helpful— I don't know why I didn't think about that!

Thank you! Counselling interview invites have already gone out, so I was a little confused! But yes, they do fall under different faculties so that would make sense. -

Is this for the clinical program specifically? I hadn't heard about this, but I applied to counselling. -
Does anyone have any tips for skype interviews? :)

Hello, fellow waitlisted candidate here (different schools/ programs). I like to think that our chances are strong. However, every year the applicant pool will differ, so it's impossible to say. That being said, you were close last year, and I'm assuming you've added experience on top of that, so you probably have a good shot!

Interesting! I might consider looking into that in the future, but I don't know that I want to start a medication right before interviews... just in case.
