Does anyone know how the funding works? I'm curious about the tri-council funding for masters, do the universities have any sway in who gets the scholarships? Or is it fully decided by the tri-council agencies?

I believe the tri-council agency fully decides. That being said I do think universities choose students based on their likelihood of getting a CGS-M award and If they have applied for that award. Someone correct me if I'm wrong!

Hi guys! What do you suggest saying in a follow-up email after a virtual meeting with a prospective supervisor? I just want to thank them for chatting with me and re-express my interest. Also, I'm planning on reaching out again once after I submit my application or if I have specific questions. For the current clin psy students, I'm curious to hear what you think of this and if it's necessary or overkill. I'm trying to treat this like a job application but I'm not sure if it's necessary to continue to do this.

I did send follow-up emails and thanked them for meeting with me. I'm not a current student but I am currently applying. Personally, I think  it shows your enthusiastic and displays diligence. Im curious to know anyone else thoughts on this?

Just FYI, it might be hard to connect with current graduate students from a specific university on here. Are current graduate students listed on the website anywhere? That's how I've found contact information for grad students.

did you email them to connect?

My understanding of OGS is that it encompasses all the Ontario schools you apply to, thus no limit. But I applied two yrs ago, things may have changed. Additionally, I only applied to 1 Ontario school so.

I was strategic with CGSM. I picked two of my top ranked/dreams schools, and then a lower tier one just in case.

CGSM is federal so should be more competitive, theoretically? Honestly it depends on the applicants you are up against, additionally with chance and luck as unknown factors.

Hmm are you seen as less competitive to Ontario Schools then because you didn't apply to tri-council funding

  5. Im wondering if anyone has any advice on if I should redo the GRE. My scores were 70th percentile Verbal 56th percentile Quant and 92nd percentile for Analytical. Only one of the schools I am applying to is requiring the GRE (it is my top choice) and I have a good relationship with my POI. All the other schools I am interested in applying to have waived the GRE. I have also had preliminary meetings with a few POIs. Im starting to think that focusing on the GRE instead of my research and application may hinder me instead of helping me. Does anyone have any thoughts on this?

Thinking of applying to law this cycle too. Anyone else considering that as a backup?

have you completed the LSAT? how did it compare to the GRE. I am also applying to Canadian programs and thinking of school Psych as a backup. I did consider Law but am afraid of my letter of recommendation writers thinking I am not passionate about clinical psych.

  7. So I just completed the GRE again today (155 Verbal and 154 Quant). My scores went up by 20 points. However, I got anxious during the verbal section and feel as if I can probably do better. I am wondering if it would be worthwhile to do the GRE again to be competitive for clinical psychology programs in Canada. My psychology GRE scores were within the 90th percentile. In addition, I have 5 posters presentations, no pubs, a directed studies and have volunteered at various labs throughout my undergrad. I am most interested in York, Western, UBC-O, SFU,  and UVIC. Do you think I should re-take the exam to be competitive for these schools?

Another GRE question: When it comes to reporting your GRE scores, how do you report scores when you've taken the GRE more than once? For instance for Quant, if I got a 150 the first time I took the test and a 160 the second time, do I report my score as an average (155) or my highest score (160)? Does anyone know what the normal procedure is for doing this on apps? Thanks!

GRE has a score select option, so you are able to send your best scores. I think that's how it works - someone correct me if I'm wrong.

Hi everyone! Just wanted to introduce myself. Longtime creeper but finally ready to buckle down and get my apps together :) I applied (ClinPsych) in the Fall 2018 to three schools and interviewed at Guelph. I was unfortunately waitlisted and decided not to reapply in 2019.The application process was so rough I didn't have it in me to try again.

However now I'm actually excited again to put myself out there and plan for my next steps! I've had some time to build up my CV and find out what I really want to do which was one positive of taking a break. I have a tentative list of ~15 (yes, not a typo) Canadian schools I'll be applying to. I'll post my list when it's finalized/I've spoken to PIs in Aug/Sep. I'm looking forward to chatting with you all about the application process! My partner's eye glaze over when I start talking about the GRE, bless his soul.

One question to start: I'll be retaking the General GRE in August. Has anyone done/scheduled an at-home test? Did you find it easier than doing it at the testing site?

Hi!! I took the GRE at home a few days ago, and found it much easier completing it at home compared to when I completed it in the test centre. I think its especially beneficial for individuals who experience crippling text anxiety like me! I would recommend taking practice tests in the same space you will take your actual test. Best of luck this cycle!

  11. Thanks! Unfortunately, I do not live in Alberta so it may not be possible for me to RA for my POI. I'm having a difficult time accessing their admissions data for information regarding how many students are accepted per year, GPAs etc. I do have a good research match at UofC, so I will definitely reach out to my POI soon.

  12. Hi!

Im looking to apply to some child psychology programs this year, specifically UBC and UofC. I am wondering if anyone has any experience applying or currently attend these programs. Are they extremely competitive like clinical psychology programs? What are typically GPA's and GRE's of those admitted? How essential is having an exact research match to gain acceptance? Or any other advice you may have! Thanks :)
