What's the story behind your avatar or username?

"Tickle me pink!" - does this phrase mean something? -
Interviews in our field are almost inevitable but you should not be afraid of them. You just need to prepare well. Read different threads on this forum about interviews, rehearse your answers for the most common questions, put together a list of questions you want to ask. Interviews are a very important part of the application process, not only because this is the way for schools to know more about us, but that's also how WE can learn more about schools and potential advisors. It's hard to make a right choice without an interview.
-
Why not? You can have phone interviews!
-
Thanks! I will tell it to myself whenever I feel insecure
-
Whatever she thought about your interests, she should have written you a longer reply. I am sure it was obvious from your letter that you had spent some time working on it and that you had been thinking about your research interests for some time. Even if she had an entirely different point of view on things you had written she should have at least tried to explain what exactly she did not like and what she did not agree with. You are a future student, you are learning and she is supposed to teach you and help you. She is just a bad educator.
-
Oh, that was really rude! She asked you herself to tell her about your interests and then she sends you this curt reply! I definetely would not want to work with such a person...
-
It's neither yes, nor no - do not overanalyze it Just keep waiting, - contacting professors after you have submitted your app and until a decision is made by the department may annoy them. Especially since you have not contacted them before, only the one you have sent these two letters to. You have been in touch only with him/her, am I right? Then sit tight and hope for the best. At that stage it's the only thing you can do.

Thanks! And congrats again!

You know I was puzzled myself about this question I prepared an answer but during two interviews that I had they did not ask me to tell about myself! Anyway, I was going to start like that: "I am XX years old and I was born in XX city. I studied at XXXX University" And then I was going to tell how I got interested in the topic I want to study in grad school. I think there are many ways you can approach this question. Do not go into details, make the answer concise and professional, not too personal. If they want to know some personal stuff, they will ask you. And do not be afraid to repeat things you've written in your SOP. They have read many SOPs so they might not remember some details and even if they do they might want you to elaborate on these things. Good luck!

I envy you!

Good luck! I am sure you will do great!

What a nice and clever guy! Many accomplished professors would be afraid to say something as honest about themselves That is what I have always suspected: even people who achieved a lot can be unsure about their accomplishments. I know from my own experience that once you've done something great and difficullt it seems that it was oh-so-easy and that everybody can do that or that there is absolutely nothing special about this next step of the staircase (of your life) that has seemed so important and unattainable before

What is a Rotarian?

Your chances are definetely higher than if you weren't interviewed. Interview is a good sign! Don't strees, better prepare yourself by thinking how you would tell concisely about yourself and your research and why did you choose this school. AND be ready to ask the interviewer questions about the school. This is your chance to know more about it and him/her!

Will graduate students tell you bad things about their program?
Strangefox replied to Strangefox's topic in The Lobby
Thank you very much! Unfortunately, I can't visit schools I applied to so I am going to talk with grad students via Skype... I hope they will be honest with me! -
I have one Embark application and I searched through it looking for someplace to see status updates. I have not found anything... If all Embark apps are structured the same way (which I believe they are), then you can't see your app status online.

And I was staring at this picture, trying to find a lobster there!!!! I love bats! I think they are very nice creatures -
I believe just seeing a professor during a school visit is not enough to determine if what was said about him is true. If OP wants some additional evidence, there is much more sense in talking with the presumably crazy professor's (ex)advisees.

Principal investigator - like in a lab?

When I write "POI" I mean "Person of Interest" - not sure about other forumers I guess sometimes once you get into a program your Person of Interest may transform into Person Oppressing Imagination
-
Yes, definetely be prepared to answer and ask questions, but if he calls you in a bad time, don't be afraid to say that. If you can't talk, it won't be your fault.
