  1. I agree with the above posters. You should contact (email) the school and ask them if they have received the letter from this prof and when they email you back, forward their answer to the professor so that she saw that the letter really was not submitted. That is a tough situation but I also understand the professor. Submitting 150 letters is a lot of work! So perhaps give her a present when it is over, I am sure she will appreciate it. Good luck!
  2. During the interview you will be probably asked to tell about yourself and your research interests, may be about why you have chosen to apply to this school - so you can prepare these answers, try answering them in front of a mirror, that usually helps. And you should be prepared to ask questions about the school. You want to find out if it is a good fit for you, right? Ask about community there, about TA load, funding, prof's research (if you are talking with a potential advisor), etc.
  3. I agree with all said above. Congrats!!!!
  4. Oh, I know, I remembered another phobia that I have that is more interesting that the fear of spiders!! I am afraid of flying objects!!! I mean, I cannot participate in games like tennis or basketball or volleyball - anything with a ball, small or large - because I am terrified by the idea that this ball can hit me!!!! I guess I COULD play golf, though, but I have not tried
  5. Calm down! You are just freaking out! If you "had a lot of conversations with all kinds of professors" it means that you have prepared your application well!
  6. That's pretty unique!
  7. I wonder, why so many people, including me, are afraid of spiders?? I mean, they are so tiny, they have much more reasons to be afraid of us then we - of them!! There must be some phsycological explanation!!!
  8. By the way, could anybody explain to me how do I know if a prof is tenured or tenure-track or non-tenure-track? (In my country tenure is non-existant so I am trying to understand the whole thing now). Basically, what I need to know is - is and an assistant professor tenure-tack? And what about an associate professor? I thought that assistant = not tenure-tack and associate = tenure-tack. Also, a lecturer is not tenure-tack. Am I right? And full professors already have tenure, right??
  9. Or may be even "Due to bla-bla I will be able to do bla-bla-bla (or I will do bla-bla-bla)". I mean, do not say that something will help you or enable you, because it will sound as if you are not able to do that on your one. It was you who started this pedantry!
  10. I've never heard about such a letter. If there are things that you want to say but feel that they don't belong in the statement of purpose, well, then you won't be able to say them, sorry. May be only during the interview. As for the thing about an extra LOR, I don't think you need to explain that to adcoms. I don't know, it just does not feel right to me, as if you were trying to make an excuse here or go into some unnecessary details... Why would they want to hear about that anyway? You had a problem, you solved it, you will probably have an extra LOR - great. But adcoms are primarily interested in your research, not in such stuff Good luck!
  11. Yes, do request extension. I've read about several people on this forum who did that and recieved it with no problems. Even a school who is on the list can technically require you to make a decision earlier because they need to know your decision in order to be able to make an offer to another applicant if you say no. They do that because they want to finish the whole process by mid April and if you wait until the 15th to say no then they will have to make an offer to another applicant after the date, which is also not good. The whole process is like a vicious circle! Good luck!
  12. I second that. Congrats and good luck!
  13. That's so sad! It means they can do such things to you and you will not be able to do anything
  14. Why do you think so?
  15. You mean, would adcoms prefer them only because of the age? I don't think so.
  16. If you have not contacted professors before you applied, now it's too late. While contacting professors with whom you have already been in touch can be fine (though it's an open question and I am personally against that), writing to a professor whom you have NOT contacted before is an absolute no. That will look really really desperate.
  17. No, it's definetely not too late. Have a look at this thread:
  18. I hope it will end well! Just a question - can a person renew F-1 visa without leaving the US?
  19. :D:D
  20. Yes, it seems like a right decision. Please tell us what the professor will answer! Good luck!
  21. So how did it end? Did you sue them??
  22. Yes, it is usually done this way.
