Has anyone heard from UCB / UCLA? Interviews or when decisions will be made?

but all in all, I think this year is bonkers.

I emailed the UCB Epid department manager last week and she apologized for the delay & that they were hoping to release decisions this week....but it's now Friday so hopefully sometime soon.

When I spoke to her, faculty and students last Fall they all emphasized that they don't require interviews so I really don't understand why it's taking so long.

    Hi everyone,

I finally got accepted to a program (yay! it only takes one!). My acceptance letter talked about receiving some funding, and that information will come later. Do you know if you get that information before accepting the offer, or do you have to accept to receive the details?

Congratulations on your acceptance!! :DThat is exactly what I have told myself since I decided to apply.

I would imagine you'd get that information before having to accept; I would definitely reach out in a week if you hadn't heard any follow up - I think that's super fair.

Has anyone heard from the Yale Social and Behavioral Sciences PhD program yet?

Also, has anyone heard from Drexel's Health Services Research and Policy program after interviews?

I haven't heard anything from Yale SBS, but I remember a few weeks ago someone posted that interviews would be going out later that week, and someone else (from a different department) said there was a recruitment day for all departments. So I'm expecting an R soon; could totally be wrong as this is all hearsay. ?

Hi all! I wanted to ask if anyone is planning to move away from their spouse/partner for their PhD? I am getting married this summer, and my fiance has a great career. However, he can only move to a select few cities where his company has an established office. We have discussed doing distance if I get into one of my top choice programs and he is unable to move.

For anyone moving - do you plan to stay in the location for the duration of your PhD, or would you try to relocate for the dissertation phase? To me, 2 years seems hard, but doable, during the coursework phase. But 4-5 years seems like a major stretch to me personally. I would love to hear other's thoughts on this!!

Hi! I agree with some other folks that this is a hard situation. Personally, I moved away from my partner for my master degree, thinking it'd only be for two years & it's definitely been harder. Because I did decide to apply for PhDs right after, our plan is for him to move out with me wherever that may be (either for a program or job if I don't get in somewhere). I'm fortunate his company has offices basically across the entire country; however, we're anticipating his move might be a few months after I do since he would need to secure a transfer beforehand.

I did also try to apply to programs in cities he would also enjoy, because I knew it was a possibility to go remote after prelims. and would have felt bad if he uprooted entirely for something/somewhere he wasn't excited for.

I think Tulane PhD results should be coming out any time now. Anybody hear anything?

I have the same inkling! I got an email from the POI I interviewed with on 1/28 that said the department was finalizing admissions, funding, and scholarships, and that was almost 2 weeks ago...

Thank you! And yeah, I had a friend interview at UMich already for the same program and they mentioned sending decisions out in waves -- assuming no responses is a good sign so far haha! Good luck :)

That makes a lot of sense! I know I spoke with various people in the department (department coordinator, faculty and some current doc students) & the program seems to be extremely small (like so many other great schools) ?   I heard they try to get decisions out by early March at the latest, so hopefully we hear back soon!!

    Alrighty, first time posting!

After reading through I see most of the same things, but here are my apps and statuses:

    1) Brown BSHS - Rejected

    2) Emory BSHE - Rejected

    3) JHU SBS - No response

    4) UMich HBHE - No response

    5) USC Population, Health and Place - No response

I also applied to PhD programs in sociology, too (NYU, UMich, and Stanford) ... I can't really find a forum for that but if anyone knows of anything please let me know :)

I'm sorry to hear about your rejections ?  But wishing you good luck and that you hear some positive news from one of your programs!

I also applied to UMich HBHE and haven't heard a thing either. I'm hoping to hear something this week or upcoming week because I know they do require interviews for admission.

How did y'all prep for your interviews? I'm freaking out about mine!

I reviewed my SOP for the school to see what they had access too, and then did more research on the program (i.e. research centers, course requirements, etc.) and my interviewers specifically (their interests/current research, center affiliations, classes they taught, and read a few recent papers they'd written). Might have been a little too much, but I just wanted to be ready to talk about them if needed.

Other than that, I tried to prepare for some questions I thought they might ask: tell me about yourself/your interests, why this program, why are you interested in a phd right now as opposed to in a few years, where do i see myself post-phd. Also brainstormed some questions to ask them, I thought the research on the program was really helpful here because I was able to avoid asking questions that are on the websites.

Hi everyone! I applied to the following PhD programs:

    1. University of Washington Health Services Research

    2. Harvard PHS Nutrition

    3. Berkeley Epidemiology

    4. OHSU-PSU Community Health

Has anyone interviewed or heard decisions from any of these specific programs? Thanks!

I applied to Berkeley Epi also and haven't heard a thing either. When I spoke to faculty and the department coordinator they all mentioned that interviews weren't required so faculty have the option to reach out but it isn't required.

    Hopefully this helps :)

Also got rejected from them today. At least the rejection letter was kind! ?

Did either of you interview with BSHS?

Did you get the impression that they're interviewing all top choices, or does it seem more like a case by case basis?

I personally got the impression it was a case by case. This particular POI was someone who I hadn't mentioned in my research statement but whose work does closely align, so they really just seemed interested in learning more about my interests/what I was looking for in a program.

Just received notification that I was recommended for admission to the Health Services Research PhD Program at Brown University. The Graduate School there will be formally sending me my acceptance and offer letter soon. Hope others who applied to the program also hear back positively.

Wow that's such a quick turnaround!! Congratulations!!!

I interviewed with BSHS, and was told from current students (so nothing official/confirmed) but that they all heard back within ~2ish weeks so getting nervous for next week.
