I saw that too but most programs have had their timelines pushed back this cycle and their website says they will notify by the end of January. Also haven't seen any invitations for clinical specifically. I wouldn't assume it's over! Fingers crossed you get an invite

I received an email in November from the POI at ASU I applied to, and they said they are reviewing applications in January. I wouldn't give up hope there yet!

Because previous posting have shown they send out their invites by the 3rd or very early Jan. I've only seen one person post their invite (Dec. 17th) so maybe they haven't sent out their invites yet, but that's why it's an assumption!

I haven't heard anythiiiing from Charlotte despite the early deadline (Nov 15th) so I'm incredibly surprised they haven't sent anything out yet. They either did and no one posted, or it could be any day now!

They usually let you know you're waitlisted directly. I had one interview invite and two waitlistings last year, one came from the PI directly and the other was a mass waitlist email.

Hey guys  I know there's no specific answer, but I was wondering if I could get any advice/words of wisdom regarding interview days, managing expectations, and just dealing with anxiety overall about application statuses?? I'm a first time applicant, and I told myself I wouldn't look at this site... but I broke down cuz I wanted to see what responses other people were getting haha.
It's a slippery slope between being informed and feeding anxieties stemming from other people's experiences... I'm just not sure how to balance my knowledge that some schools are bound to still be reviewing applications, and even if my interviews goes well I might not get acceptance offers and all the million other things I'm sure I'm not alone in worrying about. Honestly, any help is welcome and appreciated - I'm trying to only let positive vibes in but still stay realistic (and it's pretty rough lol).

I believe there is truth to this, it's easy to become fixated on those things that feel so reflective of our own situations. And let's be honest, this crowd runs high on neuroticism...!
If it seems to come from one user in particular the last few days, then yes. ? Having applied to one of the same schools, I can state for a fact you don't need that sort of experience to get the POI's attention. If it's the former situation, then I must wonder if that attitude came across in their application materials/interview. Let's hope not, but nonetheless, humility goes a ways too folks.

On the note of the results section: at what point does posting one's background stats go from "providing helpful info for future applicants" to "entitled"? I've wondered with a few posts...

To answer some of your question, PI and POI should both mean person of interest, aka. Faculty of interest/faculty whose lab they specifically applied to.
You would go to the results section (top of the page) of GradCafe to post your results (there should be something to click above the page), but there is a forum thread, stickied to the psychology section of the forum, where people are sharing where and when they have interviews.

There seems to be such an uptick in anxiety this year, and I just wanted to offer some perspective.
I'm on my third time applying, and each year I've learned something about myself through the application process. It's corny, but I wouldn't trade my experience for anything. In retrospect, it didn't work out in other years because it wasn't meant to be. I had more to learn from my current supervisors and mentors, I had the opportunity to find research labs to apply to this year that were a better fit for my interests, etc. That's not to say it didn't suck when I didn't get in the previous two years - it absolutely did. BUT remember that our careers have already started! We are already doing research and working in the clinical psych sector. Getting into a program is just an extension of that. There are a great deal of factors that influence admission to a program. It's not much solace, but so many qualified applicants don't get in each year. Don't give up!
All that to say, if it doesn't work out this year, take some time to grieve and then reflect on what you've learned, and how you can approach applications differently next cycle. To those that celebrate, Merry Christmas - take some time to be with family and enjoy life! There is much more to living than clinical psych applications.

Thanks. That helps. It's a nightmare for me right now haha. I am really kicking myself for only applying to 6, but I kept an open mind and applied to a range. I just didn't want to (and couldn't) apply to any programs I wouldn't actually be happy to attend if it were the only one I was accepted into, and I couldn't afford more than that. I got fee waivers for most programs. Five different schools I wanted to apply to were not accepting any students at all this year because of the pandemic. I had to cut my list way down to the 6 that were still admitting students. And 3 of my 6 schools have Jan. interviews on their website, so I am pretty sure I am 50% out, including my first choice (UK). Some of them are on the results page
I have over 3 years research work + project managing experience in 3 different labs, 3 years asst teaching in college psych and English courses, 4.0 GPA, 9 posters (both national and regional), manuscript, 6 invited addresses/panel discussions/webinars, an honors thesis, 3 clinical internships, poster presentation award, 2 travel grants, university research grant, 9 scholarships, board committee member for international org., etc. etc. and great fit with research interest in labs. I figured I had a bit of a disadvantage from people who could still afford or access to take the GRE somehow in this pandemic mess and score well, who had publications, more research, etc., no matter how much I tried to do but didn't think I'd have 0 interviews. I didn't have scores to report and they were either not accepted or optional, so I didn't think it mattered. I just feel terrible. My LOR were from: assoc chair of dept/PI, one of my disability studies professors in another field but I took 5 courses with her and did an ind. study project with her relevant to psych, and the 3rd was the executive director of the org I am in. My thesis advisor couldn't write my letter anymore (hospitalized with severe presumed Covid) so I had to ask the director the week of to write one for me. So I only had one letter who could speak to my research more directly. I don't even know if he is ok. It has been up and down for me. Sorry this got long. It is just sooooo hard! And I can't imagine how other people are feeling with the variety of circumstances going on right now. We can do this.

Hey everyone! I just saw a post on SDN regarding apps this year from a faculty member. I’m going to copy and paste it here, but Here’s the link to the thread in case anyone’s interested.
“Happy holidays everyone! I’m back with some stats now that I have done a first pass on all my 2021 apps. I would say these are semi-final data as I am going to go back over things before I make interview decisions, but I wanted to at least lay eyes on all these apps before taking a break and I thought I'd share this info before the holidays in case anyone was lurking on SDN and looking for something to think about  .

Some background (hopefully sufficiently de-identified): I am junior faculty in a clinical psych PhD program at an R1 public university. The program has been APA accredited for longer than I have been alive and I think/hope it has a general reputation as being solid. Small cohorts, full funding, and no one hasn’t matched to an APA site in recent memory. We had 1 fewer person accepting apps this year vs last year and given the career stages/academic famousness () of who was and wasn’t accepting apps this year I would have expected a decrease in apps.

Overall apps were up around 50% over last year. I keep personal records on apps to my lab, so the stats below are only using those (i.e. not the full program), though I do get a disproportionate percentage of program apps (about twice what you'd expect just given # of apps/n of faculty accepting apps) so this is probably at least somewhat reflective of the pool in general. Comparisons between 2020 and 2021 assume that I am consistent in my ratings across years (which may not be correct given general 2020-ness and the big increase in volume, plus I refine my process each year I do this). Also, I should note a few people are represented in both samples because they applied to me both last year and this year, though may not have been rated the same because of changes on their end (e.g., more experience).

We use a rubric to score apps. The range for app rubric scores in typical years is roughly -20 to +30. We included points for GRE scores last year but did not accept GREs this year so I tried to correct for that by adding mean 2020 GRE points to the total 2021 rubric numbers. This is imperfect, but seems better than nothing re: comparing samples and I can’t get into a major deep dive on this right now ?. Providing a few stats that were easy to compile and seemed meaningful, plus an overall indication of the competitiveness of each pool (total rubric scores).

    2020
    29% with masters
33% with postbac/master’s paid research experience
    13% other than non-Hispanic white
    Undergrad GPA M = 3.7
Rubric points for research experience M = 2.4
Total scores on rubric M = 12.3 (for reference, the M for people I interviewed was 22.3)

    2021
    30% with masters
18% with postbac/master’s paid research experience
    39% other than non-Hispanic white
    Undergrad GPA M = 3.7
Rubric points for research experience M = 1.9
    Total (adjusted with 2020 GRE M) scores on rubric M = 7.9

My takeaways, both from my app review experience and these data, indicate a higher proportion of applicants who identify as something other than non-Hispanic/Latinx white (seems good!) and also those with less research experience (less good!) this year. In fairness, I think I was harder on rating letters than I was last year in an effort to try to separate the rock stars from the generally good apps. This may have depressed total scores a little, but the research experience points and % with post-degree research employment are objective data points that point to a legitimate shift. I did not get a single app that I would classify as "I was a psych major and am now unemployed so I'll try to go to grad school" as we had hypothesized. Rather, I saw more people who were current undergrads and/or master's level clinicians who maybe had some research experience but not enough to be competitive for my lab. I get applicants like this every year, but I think there was more growth in apps from this segment than others. I did also see growth in solid applicants with great research experience, so just more of everything.

Not sure if this helps applicants feel any better- I would say that the pool is not saturated entirely with more super qualified apps, but also that it doesn't seem to be all noise either. Interested to hear what people think, and I'm happy to answer questions (within the bounds of maintaining my anonymity and not being too detailed about specific applicants or internal program processes).”
