  1. In anthropology it's about your advisor and not the university
  2. I would send an email introducing yourself and ask questions if you have them for the person and at the very least you can ask if the person is taking on students this coming year. This will make it appear you have a reason to email
  3. My university is still closed due to weather. Profs have answered emails, yes a closed university does not stop me from working.
  4. Like I've said, my university says online you don't need a masters but in reality they don't accept anyone into the phd program without a masters.
  5. Remember this site represents a great minority of applicants
  6. They could get annoyed but I'm pretty sure they know the date
  7. Lauri- based on your schools you should hear back at one by end of feb and the rest but one early mar then one not till almost April if their history holds true
  8. Gradcat- yes it can be. In fact a lot of programs notify you late jan early feb
  9. You could apply for fellowships and then once accepted you can look outside your department for funding at the school
  10. In mt department the ta is the instructor on record and in complete control of the class
  11. I would send my cv in. Tis isn't odd even us schools do this sometimes
  12. Canis- yes you must fill out both to be eligible for funding and no it's means funding is competitive and not guaranteed.
  13. Wow, in the real world a lot of people go without funding. Hard sciences give funding to everyone soft sciences don't. I started without funding, got funding within a month of the semester starting, gave it up a year later due to fellowships and been doing fellowships since. If your confident in yourself being able to not have to rely on the department for funding why not go?
  14. Why not just request extensions on the offers and wait with the knowledge you already in somewhere?
  15. If they aren't good fits your be flushing the money down the toilet. Fit is the most important thing in the whole app, followed by gre since most universities have a set score you must meet before it gets past on to the POI. I left out gpa because everyone applying have solid gpa's.
  16. Canis- I totally disagree with you. Most schools in my subfield require a masters at a different uni before they will accept you and this is common practice by many university. Also, my phd uni fund their master students as well as us phd students. I also had full funding at my master university so in all I disagree that MA is meant to fund the phd program
  17. A lot of times computer system just doesn't get updated even though they have all the stuff
  18. Wow, congrats when was the deadline? It seems very early to be notify but takes a lot of the stress out of this now
  19. Canis- just repeating what both my masters advisor and ohs advisor
  20. Canis- when I say field I mean your subfield in anthro. If your bio all your bioanth should be A's if your arch they all should be a's. sorry for misunderstanding
  21. Archeo- I agree avoid asking questions that are easily answered by yourself
  22. Mon- I don't into programs that I both visited and didn't visit so who's to say
  23. Archeology- go to the results page and look up each school to get a good idea when they notify people. Every school is different
  24. Poi fit matters most but it is bad to have anything but an A in the field you study. An A is expected, B means you did something wrong, c and below don't belong in a phd program
