They do fund students via scholarships and/or TA/RA work, but funding is not guaranteed, so you may have to work at building connections at first. As students move throughout the program, they get more seniority, so the senior students will get priority over newer students for many of the paid opportunities. I was a little worried about the funding situation when I first started, but with giving it more and more time, in the first calendar year of my program I will have earned just under $21,000. That said, I believe there's someone in my cohort who hasn't received any funding, so the funding varies.
Another thing to keep in mind is cost of living. Currently, I'm living in downtown Edmonton in a partially renovated apartment which is well over 700 sq feet, and it has a huge balcony (i.e., maybe around 20 feet long). Each month, I pay just over $1250, which includes indoor heated parking, heat, water, and a guarantee that my cat can stay (yes, he pays rent!). In some other provinces, I'd be living in a tiny box for that price.

Hi all, does anyone know how many reference letters/assessment forms you can reasonably ask for from a given referee? I'm planning to reapply next year to as many schools as possible but don't know enough people to have different referees for different schools. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I applied to Queens and haven’t heard back but it seems that they already sent out the interview invites and accepted people. I only saw one person post saying they got rejected.

I am also on the list for Lakehead and I don’t know what is happening there. I know that they sent out their first round of offers and are giving people until April 15 to respond. So it might be a while before the wait list people heard back? But they did send out an email last week or so letting people know that they will do their best to get back before end of March to early April.

best of luck to you with your other offers

Re: Lakehead, most of us are still waiting for the official offer letters, which have been delayed by the cyberattack ?  Might explain slow waitlist movement

Has anyone been officially rejected from Queens? I haven’t heard anything from them.
Also, my York portal still says there’s no decision made on my application yet even though I was not invited to the open house, any insights?

Finally, has anyone who was previously on the waitlist received an offer from Lakehead? Trying to gauge where I might be before accepting a different offer.

Edit: This ended up being an acceptance to the experimental program. I got an OGS so they still wanted to admit me even though there were no more spots in the clinical program. Glad I have an offer from a clinical program where I live, but I was extremely disappointed and heartbroken to find this out.
For anyone still waiting to hear from McMaster, unfortunately I can confirm that all the spots in the clinical program have been offered and accepted.

I applied to Queens and haven't heard back and I would assume that is a rejection now.

One of my profs' honors students got an NSERC to a school and didn't get in. My prof was furious so he called up the school asking what the problem was, and they admitted that they didn't account for the NSERC and they gave the student admission. Granted this was for experimental psych, not clinical, but still, these things can happen!

Does anyone know if certain programs qualify you to work as a Psychological Associate upon completing master’s in school/child psych?
I know masters are not recognized by the CPA/College besides SCCP at OISE which explicitly states it qualifies on their website but I’m wondering if there are others masters people know of (such as Western or UBC’s SACP) which allow working as a Psychological Associate?

hey guys! just had a couple questions. for those of us who might not get accepted this year and will then be applying to the next cycle (so working for a year i assume, applying to 2022/2023), how can we gain experience? i guess for clinical the most important thing would be gaining actual clinical experience but for me personally, ill be graduating this year so do i just continue to email profs and ask if i can work with them? just a little bit confused on how i can get posters/presentations/pubs as well as research/student assistant experience when im out of school. any advice would be appreciated!
another question, completely unrelated to the one above, for those of us who are waitlisted, how exactly does it work? especially with open houses coming up?

Hi all, hope everyone is hanging in there during this last bit of this year's application cycle ? For those of you who didn't get many interviews or offers last year but had more success this year (or anyone that can weigh in on this!), what would you say changed in a year that influenced your success? Or for those who were accepted right off the bat, anything in particular that you thought really made your application stand out? This could range from your experiences, reaching out to PIs, schools you applied to, references, personal statement, or anything else that you can think of and are willing to share - I'd love to hear any input people have (on here or PM)!

An update for folks who have applied to Lakehead's clinical MA program: I spoke with their secretary recently, who said that the department is currently in the process of developing A, B, and C lists (top-tier, second-tier, do not admit). The A and B lists will be distributed to POIs the week of February 8th-12th. Applicants may be contacted with offers around this time (they do not have formal interviews, although your POI may or may not contact you to meet informally). If your proposed supervisor(s) is not able to supervise you, but they think you would be a good fit for the program, they will contact you about other potential supervisors you would be interested in working with. Offers will be sent out in small amounts at a time trickling down these lists until they have between 5-7 accepted offers. I just wanted to let everyone know that offers will likely be made from February until possibly April, so don't panic if people start receiving offers mid-February! Hope that helps give a little bit of clarity. Good luck!!

Just got email from Lakehead POI and was accepted with funding!!
I didn't apply to external funding as I discovered this POI after scholarship deadlines, so overall funding isn't that high for 1st year Masters. Would welcome any DMs and/or advice re: funding.
