  1. How did you do to carry loads of bags? Did you take Ubers for grocery shopping?
  2. Did anyone else apply to Caltech? It's the one result I need to close my cycle.
  3. I can use R if I have to, but I’ll use Python when possible. Not that R is worse, it’s just that I have much more experience with Python.
  4. Thank you so much! ngl it sound like a bit of a headache, no wonder it’s so famously complex.
  5. Now that we’re discussing funding specifics, does someone know how to calculate net income? I understand there are different tax levels in the US and apparently there’s also different tax codes depending on consumed good (e.g textbooks vs rent). Any good rule of thumb people use or sources to look into for more information would be very good help!
  6. I received an email from Duke and it was a waitlist notice. I had been interviewed (which went terribly, lol, so I’m not surprised), and my subfield is Political Economy.
  7. You can’t just leave us hanging like that. Which name was on the letter? Was it gradinho???
  8. I hadn't seen this lol Yes, I've been there too. I think it should get easier as I become familiar with most mechanics.
  9. I've been admitted to NYU! I'm extatic! My subfield is methods / political economy.
  10. Congrats to all who are getting offers today! I just got an email from a professor at Rochester to tell me I've been waitlisted. This is good news considering that 10 minutes ago I thought I had been rejected. The email made a point on saying that this is a challenging year for them.
  11. Something that helps me deal with anxiety is becoming aware that my end goal is not having a PhD per se, it's actually the knowledge and community that grad school and academia provide. Knowing this, I am mindful that there will remain many other ways for me to achieve these goals with or without a PhD. It's an exercise of self-confidence; it helps just knowing that, no matter what, we are going to be OK.
  12. Hi all. I've been a lurker for long enough and wanted to share in this anxious experience of waiting for application results to come back. I must say that reading all of you has been comforting and humbling. In the mean time, as I assume most of you here are likely to be quite engaged and potentially great political scientists I thought it'd be a good idea if we shared goodreads profiles? I'd like to follow some of you so I can catch better book recommendations.
