Hi, I was accepted to Northeastern, they sent an email on Friday. I went to the visit; won’t be accepting. Good luck!

I reached out to them last week and they said most likely we will be getting something as soon as mid this week (22nd)

Does anyone know when we’ll hear anything from Northwestern??

I see the rejections for UChicago. My heart goes out to all of you. I was in the same boat two years ago. For those who got interviews…do you think there will be two rounds of rejections then? Or are the interviewees probably going to be admitted/waitlisted? 

I definitely don’t think you should get a PhD where they don’t even focus on your field ? who’d be your advisor who’d help you?? Who would you get your connections from? Seems connections are v important in academia...just things to think about! Besides, us having a fully funded masters is apparently rare! We should partake ?

Now that most accepts/rejects have gone out, just a friendly plea to anyone sitting on offers they *know* they won't be accepting to please notify departments as soon as possible. Most departments have had to downsize cohorts so there are much larger wait-lists this year -- and many people still hoping for spots to open up!

I can now officially say being waitlisted after interviewing feels worse than rejections or being waitlisted with no contact first. Rip. 

I think the most frustrating part of this cycle has been getting stuck in a sort of "limbo" for some schools, where we've seen both rejections and acceptances go out, but heard nothing ourself. It leaves me with a sense of hope, even though I know it's likely that they just haven't gotten around to rejecting everyone. I appreciate the cold efficiency of UT and other schools who send everything out at once/within a few days of initial rejections/acceptances, leaving no ambiguity.
Anyways, good luck to everyone still waiting to hear back from schools, or also stuck in limbo!

Wish I could save this somewhere. I absolutely resonate with your words! It's beyond heartwarming to be hearing things like this during such a hard time. I have yet to hear good news from any school to be quite honest here... but I've been telling myself that it is way too early to give up. I constantly ask myself why I embarked on this journey and knowing the answer by heart and truly believing in this purpose help me looking forward.

I'm just going to hop on the encouragement gravy train and say that you are definitely entitled to feel however you want to feel about this cycle AND ALSO remember that YOU are the success, the secret sauce and the determining WOW/IT factor in your career. I know as aspiring sociologists we look a lot at structural/societal factors and constraints, but I just want to remind you of your individual agency and no matter where you end up, as long as you don't lose sight of who you are, what you are capable of and your personal vision for your career, I truly and totally believe you will be a smashing success (whatever you define success as). This cycle definitely sucks, and it is painful to apply to so many places and receive so little in return and I do believe in processing our feelings (it's your admissions cycle and you can cry if you want to!). But I also hope that when the pain has cleared from your eyes, you remember everything that you bring to the field. In this journey, you are the hero, and you're going to make the most of every opportunity that comes your way, rejection be damned.
