  1. I’m considering working full time while getting my Epi PhD, but I’m not sure how stressful it will be yet. I’ve heard of people who work 20-30 hours per week, but not so much 40 hours. I’m in my early 30s and have been working/side hustling for several years, so I’m hoping that experience in time management will help me balance it. It definitely looks tight with a full course load + study time outside of class. I would consider reducing school to part time if needed. But it’s been done before so why can’t we do it?
  2. Wowowow THANK YOU for this response! It’s so good to hear that you had positive experiences working there and in the city of Davis. The bikes, events, and vibe that you describe sound amazing! And omg summers in Tahoe and Yosemite?! Get out of town! ? I’ll be moving there from Atlanta, so I’m used to hot and super humid summers. I’m very glad to hear that the PhD student you worked with had a positive experience in the program too! The Davis program structure is a little confusing, but I suppose the important thing is that I get strong training in Epi/biostats while working under a faculty member that is really supportive of my work and connects me to future collaborators. Do you happen to remember the name of that infectious disease advisor? Seriously! I would pay for this kind of hype! Thanks so much!
  3. Hi all. Long time lurker, first time poster here. Just got my final application result so here's my record for Epidemiology PhD programs: UC Davis - Accepted, 2 years of guaranteed funding before needing to find a TA/RA position UCSF - Rejected Stanford - Rejected after interviews Berkeley - Rejected I'm grateful to have one acceptance during this crazy application year, but like many folks I'm bummed to have been rejected from my top choices. That said, is anyone else thinking about attending UC Davis in the Fall? Or do you have any insight into the program? Also is anyone thinking about deferring for a year to reapply? Again, I'm not trying to be ungrateful, but I want to make sure I get a good fit for my interests too. I'd really appreciate any insight!
