  1. I'll be attending William and Mary. Anyone else?
  2. I was contacted by CUNY Graduate Center asking for an interview. I politely declined, as I have recently accepted my offer at William and Mary. Hopefully this opens up room for anyone still holding out for them!
  3. Thanks! I got the call last night, the official email this morning, and I accepted it! "It only takes one" has been my mantra throughout the process... and that's precisely how it played out. I couldn't be more excited by the program, my future advisor, the funding package, or the opportunity to live in the Chesapeake (My girlfriend and I both have deep roots in the area).
  4. Yeah, I didn't realize how small their typical cohort is until after I applied. Shoddy research on my part, I suppose. The school fits my research interests very well (not to mention it is close to family and friends). We'll see what happens!
  5. Indeed. And as someone who is on their wait list, I am quite intrigued.
  6. And I may be biased, but I can vouch for Chicago being a great city. (It's mid-February, and it's 60 degrees today... what the hell?)
  7. NW may not have the same name recognition to the general public in some parts of the world, but I'd be quite surprised if the people in your department would advise you to turn down a funded spot there.
  8. I'd concur with the poster recommending Rhetoric. In addition to Berkeley, both Penn State and South Carolina have very strong Rhetoric program--and I know for certain that USC has several faculty with interests in Historiography. But I also agree with this: For better or for worse (but probably for better) theory of history/historiography work is done by practicing historians. After all, we are bound to empirical methods that Rhetoric, Philosophy, etc, are not (at least as much), so it follows that we can bring that practical experience to the theoretical table only after honing those skills and perspectives in the archive.
  9. Early American Republic. What about yourself?
  10. thanks for the insight!
  11. Does anyone know if no interview= rejection at CUNY Graduate Center?
  12. So, who is my McGill waitlist buddy? That makes 2 wait lists, a slew of rejections, and 3 schools outstanding for me.
  13. Indeed. This week that began with a bang will seemingly go out with a wimper. I'm waiting for my rejection letters from Wisconsin and Chicago (and, presumably, from Columbia). Still holding out hope for McGill, CUNY Graduate Center, Notre Dame, and Lehigh. Happy weekend, folks!
  14. Dammit. I just got a phone call from a Chicago phone number.... I may have won a cruise.
  15. Congrats on Northwestern! I currently live in Chicago, shoot me a message if you have any questions about the city.
