  1. ditto. Quite excited.
  2. Sorry purpledinosaur, my incredulousness was directed at Columbia's claim to get back to us in March, because I thought they did interviews. I also got accepted to Chicago on the 26th!!! (still reeling) re: Cornell, I forgot to say that the admin got back to me to say to ignore the "incomplete" status. They're under review and if they have anything they need from you, they'll let you know.
  3. whaaaaaaaaaaaaatttttttt? Don't they interview?
  4. Hahaha gellert I reversed the downvote because I have no idea why anyone would downvote SILLINESS in this time of need!! Here's my boring list even though I end up running back to my computer regardless: workout replay Zelda Ocarina of Time start email threads with faraway friends puzzles get better at basic piano skills follow my friends and family on their travels away from my computer clean (ha!) gossip blogs.
  5. YO PURPLEDINOSAUR COME TO THE MUSIC FORUM! Also you're a fellow Chicago admit???????? Yay!! Uhh sorry, a bit off-topic... Yes, no one knows what music theory is, even though I think most high schools offer it as a course.
  6. go composers go!
  7. Don't take this the wrong way, but this made me laugh and is why I love gradcafe. We need all the clues and hints we can get during the waiting game!! Edit: to answer the question in my experience - yes, it can happen. More likely if you were on a waiting list, I think.
  8. "Do you think that acceptance to Blarvard U on the results survey is fake??" "Not any school gives any indication of any date when any applicant would hear any sort of news. That's why I stalk GradCafe." "I just reread my SoP and I hate myself now." "I am an imposter, so I don't want an interview lest my POIs find that out." "I love mondays!" "My POI at Blarvard U has a twitter and he tweeted about the weather being bad but I can't help thinking that he's talking about applications. :/"
  9. Ugh, yes. I got that from one or two people, while everyone else has no idea how competitive these programs are. Susie Q Sample down the block got into graduate school on her first try! This one really gets my goat.
  10. 1. "You spent all day on your applications? You're still not finished?" 2. "And what are you going to do when you're done?" (absolutely no one cares about what I'll do when I'm there) 3. "But are there any things you could do with that in the world?" <--this person would not listen to me until I started talking about music therapy, which is luckily a genuine interest of mine, albeit still on the research side of things. 4. "Oh, you got accepted to [unfunded master's at a name brand school]? WOW CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!!!" vs. "Oh, you got accepted to [a top-ranked doctoral program with full funding for five years but much less local name recognition]? That's nice!"

    Interviews

*frantically commences studying theory/history* hold on I just got an email !! I thought I was just rejected from a school and it was just a conference rejection HOLY MOLY. Well, that frees up a bit of my schedule. Okay I'm back. Time to make a giant spreadsheet of February preparation. I'm so happy/impressed there's an interview thread in the music forum.
  13. Do you have any PowerPC applications? Beware; they no longer work on Lion. I lost my entire Adobe Creative Suite in the upgrade, a few games, and all of Microsoft Office 2004. They were all old apps but they worked fine and dandy in Snow Leopard. I idiotically did not prepare! There are obviously good things to Lion, and Apple's website will tell you all about it. It's also been out for a while so any major issues have been fixed with patches, methinks. I have not had any crashing issues or battery life issues, but I also have the slightly newer 2011-era MacBook Pro. $30 is still a pretty good price.

Not negative, realistic! Also, what Revo said.
  16. In my experience, yes, because MA application deadlines are usually weeks to months later than PhD deadlines.

  18. Hahaha, because I went through the process last year too, I'll post my batch. Rejections: "Decision made on your application to [school] for the 2011-12 academic year." "[school] Application" Waitlist: "[school] [Department] Admissions Update Information." Interviews: "[school] PhD Interview" "Admissions Visit" "[Department] Invitation - Open House" Acceptances: "[school] - Office of Graduate Admissions - Application Status - [Date]" "Admission to [school]!"
  19. Congrats to the Berkeley ethno acceptance! Anyone here? I think last year NYU notified (positives) in early March.
  20. this is the first time in two years the northeast hasn't been bombarded with 20+ inches of snow every weekend, that's for sure. (Last year I told myself that's why no one was getting back to me in February!! haha)
  21. Amazing, Karajan and Dharma!!
  22. thanks guys! And it's definitely true that other subdisciplines can have wildly different timelines since a whole different set of professors has to schedule their reviews. And it's still early. I'm frankly surprised to have heard anything before February!! I'm crossing my fingers for everyone. I see a UC-Davis acceptance so congrats to whoever got that one!! Good luck and have fun transcribing eum-ag! I love gamelan music but I do not know if I would love to transcribe it. (haha I pronounce my own name like the letters - s-n-e-s, as in super nintendo entertainment system, because I signed up on gradcafe when I was writing a paper about the audio technology of that particular machines. But, I kinda like "sneeze" too because I have mega allergies!! hahaha)
