13 programs would seriously break my budget! I would be living in my car next month. -

Yes, I am only applying to 5 schools. I keep thinking I should apply to more programs, but I applied to 10 last year and didn't get in anywhere. While anxiety of only applying to 5 schools scares me, I also remember that more doesn't mean your odds are higher. -

Addition: Ole Miss SOP - done! I'm on a roll tonight!! Needless to say they were pretty much done already, but the finishing touches and realizing I am done is a nice sigh of relief. -

I feel like I have finally started to enter the arena of progress! Miami SOP - done. Purdue SOP - done. KU SOP - out for final edits. Transcripts uploaded to KU - done. All other transcripts received - done. 2 LORs completed for each school - done. Ole Miss app fee paid - done. I still have to tweak the SOPs for Ole Miss and LSU, finalize my 15 page writing sample, send a "reminder" email to the prof pending LOR submission, wait for my GRE score to update online for AW, and then bulk my writing sample up to approximately 20 pages for LSU, but I feel somewhat accomplished at this point in time. It is going to be a busy few weeks. Good thing LSU's deadline is January 25th! -

I bet every humanities student that read that was disgusted by your vulgar use of grammar.

SOP & Academic Rock Stars

For every action there is an equal or opposite reaction...that is how I feel about any and all questions asked and actions taken during the application process. I'm hoping for the equal! -

Yea, there really aren't many programs that do interviews anymore. I know for sure Emory still does, as Timshel stated. January will be pretty straight because there aren't a lot of schools sending out decisions. Now come February....ugh. You will be obsessively checking this board to see if anyone has posted an acceptance, checking your email, phones, websites...it gets pretty gnarly. -
Stupid, Stupid GRE

at least it is over now and you can focus on apps. I hope it all works out for you! -
Seriously. Aside from the mental anguish and exhaustion, I am now experiencing extreme carpal tunnel. I'm typing this with left hand only!!! My right wrist hurts so bad that I can only prop it in one direction. I guess working on a computer all day and then coming home and spending all night on the computer typing has started to catch up with me. Ugh 28 year old moment. I don't want to know what 60 feels like.

I'm having the hardest time with my 500 word SOP. I don't feel that it is enough room to talk about everything I want to talk about. However, they are very specific in what is wanted in the 500 word statement; whereas, the others don't indicate length or exactly what they want. It is a matter of taking my ideas and making them very concise.

Derrida for sure. I actually love Lacan and Foucalt - I literally LOL when I read them. They entertain me. -

I'm just waiting for my AW scores to come back from my GRE from yesterday so I can complete the applications. Then it will be a round of submitting 4/5 at once. LSU isn't due until January 25th and I will need to add about 5 pages to my writing sample for them. So they will be the school I'm holding off on submitting. I'm so looking forward to having everything submitted and knowing that I did more work than I could have imagined for these applications! Then the wait begins... -

There is NO WAY I will print out my applications. When they are done - they are DONE! I'm even mildly tempted to delete the SOPs and stuff off my computer when I'm done. -

Thank you, everyone. I'm so glad to have that weight off my shoulders. Cquin - at least you checked before you went all the way to the testing center! That really sucks though. I'm crossing fingers for ya!
