  1. They aren't on your list, bespeckled
  2. I wouldn't assume. Check the website to see if everything has posted, if it hasn't call them. For schools that don't allow you to check online, get in touch with them as well. I generally send an email and they are pretty quick to respond. I had a school last year that didn't indicate anything was missing and then I got a rejection letter stating my application was incomplete.
  3. The funny thing is we say we are done, but there is the process of making sure the schools have all of our material after submission. Which is a task in itself!! One of my schools the writing sample didn't load, so I am off to the post office to mail a hard copy now. Still waiting to hear from 2 schools to make sure they have all my stuff. Yay for 2 word last names that are confusing and stuff doesn't load properly.
  4. That's what the written checklist is for Plus my work is in my gmail docs
  5. Just finished The Marriage Plot and now I'm on to 1984.
  6. Finally being able to read for pleasure and not feel guilty!!! Anddddddd ranting and obsessing with my friend that's applying as well, Venti White Choc Mocha!
  7. It was pretty much a constant when I was waiting last year...and constantly checking the board and my phone.
  8. I have folders on my desktop for each school individually, a written checklist, and email folders made. I hate excel.
  9. When did you submit your application? I've been poking around the website to look who to email whether my information was received in full. I haven't gotten any information from them yet.
  10. Missing GRE scores is definitely incomplete. Call the ETS and/or program and make sure they have those!
  11. So worth it. To have the stress taken off your shoulders...incredible. I had to push through my last one, but so glad I did.
  12. I've been relatively positive, but when I saw the error I was like OHMYGOD and had a moment. It has passed...for now.
  13. I did that the other night and my anxiety went full throttle for some reason. It appears that KU is going to be my first school to report from historical reporting.
  14. I just found a typo in my Kansas SOP....ugh. Stupid, stupid, stupid. It is minor...but ugh.
  15. I did the walk of shame last year...it sucked. And of course everyone knows I'm applying again. Well family and friends. I don't talk about it that much this year. Only 3 people I work with know I'm applying....which now seems like too many. Ugh.
  16. @ Grimwig - My professors were the same way last year. Everyone thought that I would have a choice of programs to go to, even my "younger professors" that had been teaching for only 4 years. They applied about 10 years ago and all had choices. When I was rejected across the board they were shocked. They could not believe I had been passed over by 10 programs. It is a completely different ball game now. I attribute a lot of it to the economy and peopel pursuing higher education because they can't find jobs. I think it is ridiculous to pursue a PhD just because you can't find a job...not a good reason. That person will probably drop out. Ugh, I felt good about having all my applications submitted. Now I'm freaking out again. Yuck.
  17. Done, done, done, done, DOOOOOOOOONE! I was going to procrastinate a little to work with the LSU writing sample, but I decided to start the New Year with a clean slate. I finished the application this morning and mailed out the supporting documents. Now I can allow about a week for schools to get the information loaded to the website before I start calling them to make sure everything is received. I can have my evenings back for pleasure reading and watching television again. It has been oh so long.
  18. Yea...I've decided I'm not going to add more to it because I just can't really find anywhere to add. I don't want to mess it up.
  19. Just wanted to be the 100th reply on the thread
  20. So LSU says they want "approximately 20 pages" for the writing sample. Does 18 pages seem good enough? Or do I need to flesh it out to 20? The approximately 20 is throwing me off.
  21. Unfortunately, that is a common issue. Many schools get so many applications that it often takes calling to the school to get everything updated.
  22. I just finished Nunez's Boundaries. If you are a Caribbean lit person, read it. So good. Now I'm intrigued by The Marriage Plot. I looked up the synopsis and reviews - seems right up an English major's ally! Downloaded it to the ereader and am about to start. Excited about it. Loving the new ereader. I fought them for so long, but now that I have one and don't have to leave the house to get a book...priceless for good old pleasure reading.
  23. I think you are safe with your AW score. The schools will see both scores, but will take the higher of the 2. A lot of programs don't care about the AW score because they have your writing sample in hand. A saw a handful of schools indicating on their websites they want a specific AW score, but that seemed to be just a few of the schools that get 500+ applications. It may just be a way to weed people out if you aren't at the score. If your schools aren't talking about the AW score on their requirments page, they probably aren't too concerned with it because they, again, have your writing sample and SOP. Those are the true testiments to your writing abilities.
