Hi, I've been accepted to my 2nd choice program and it didn't mentioned anything about a grad school deposit. I am still waiting for my 1st choice which doesn't come til early May, so I think I will accept this offer first and see what happens (but I need to know how much the deposit would be, so I can be prepared) . How can I ask the program in a polite way? Thanks

haven't received anything yet, I think it's at least another 3-4 wks before the MPH make their decisions.

Made mistake related to my GPA in application resume

I just made the same mistake, when I e-mailed the admission people for my universities. all of them said they said they use their own calculation using my transcript. So no worries! -

My story is horrible, my first application was actually to my top choice program. And this is my first time applying, so I asked a prof to be my LOR and i specifically asked if he was confident to write me a strong letter. He said not to worry, he will write a nice, nice reference letter for me. So I went home all happy, the next day I found out he submitted my letter without even knowing which discipline I was applying and why that school. He then said, I only focused on some aspect of the research you did with me, I don't think I knew you well enough to comment on other stuff like your personality. Well, I wish you told me that before you said yes to my request.

Waiting it Out on Canadian Universities - 2012

just submitted my last application, so I am joining the club. I only applied to 4 schools tho, which made me nervous since all my friends applied to 8+ schools. -
just realized, I formatted one of my job responsibility wrong when I copied and pasted, so the line should actually belong to another job above the job I am putting it in and it's about educating people for diabetes but I put in my blood service volunteer description. slightly freaking out

hey I spoke with the program coordinator during one of the grad school fair. I couldn't remember exactly but they have hundreds of application for very few spots (they said they will increase the class size to 50 in a couple years but it's currently at 15-25 spots now?). Anyways, I decided not to apply because like the poster above said, it is all med school applicants looking for a back up. I hope the adcomm will at least try to weed these people out since most are just using as a stepping stone to med schools, but you are def. completing against very strong candidate.

Waiting it out 2012... 'I've just submitted my application' thread
misgengen replied to fenderpete's topic in Waiting it Out
I submitted my app yesterday. Then the paranoia already began. Do the schools verity activities on CV? I realized some of my activities was sketched to some extent (quit in Nov, but put in Sept-Dec). Little things here and there. Driving me nuts -
my research lab offered a summer series of seminars with a speaker coming in every week for three months and I attended the whole series. I was told I can't put it in my CV by other people, but I was thinking of putting it under professional development or additional training? I am trying to apply for public health and thought it would at least show some dedication to the field. How would I list it if its OK? Thanks

Hi, I am applying for clinical health promotion program and is currently finishing up my first draft. I am not sure if I am writing my SOP correctly since I seems to be spending a lot of times talking about my final yr research project and how it leads me to apply to this program. I also didn't mention a lot about my abilities and how it would let me succeed in this program. Here is the general outline, I would appreciate feedback! Thanks! Paragraph 1: I talked about how I used to have risky health behaviors and had a hard time changing it, which motivated me into taking a health promo course during undergrad Paragraph 2: then I goes into my research in rehab science and talked about the differences and similarities of health promo in rehab context then to healthy individual; also explained my main findings from my final yr research project (not directly related to health promo tho) and how it confirm my desire to work in public health. Paragraph 3: talked about my cultural diversity and backgrounds and how it will contribute to the program, I also tried to link random volunteers experience I did in different health care settings, I don't know if I should cut that out, didn't do a lot in them(and def. not in a leadership context) Final paragraph: Why the program appeals to me and my career aspirations What do you guys think? I feel like I had a lot of stuff in there and I am trying to randomly link them to health promo, because I didn't have direct experience in health promo.

putting a research experience that I quit on the CV?
misgengen replied to misgengen's topic in Applications
I doubt they knows each other as it was in a different field to what I am applying (main reason why I quit in the first place). But who knows, academia is a small world, and hopefully it won't come back to bite me. -
Hi, I saw that many template CV included the prof's name that people work under. I worked for a year as RA under this professor and was not happy about the job so I quit. It didn't end quite well with the prof, but I ended up with another RA job that I loved. I am only an 4th year undergrad student, so that research job was an important part on my CV. Should I just omit the laboratory name or am I better off not include it at all, in case the schools check with this prof? I am quite sure that he will give me a terrible reference.

Thanks, ktel! I really appreciate your response, I finally have 4 ppl on board for LORs. Just submitted the basic info for my #1 choice. I made a mistake on not including my middle name on my app which means I prob. need to go to the school to fix it. And as I was freaking out about my mistake, I realized one of the LORs had already uploaded his LOR. I am both amused and horrified, I told him I am applying to this school but I have yet to tell him which program I am applied or why I am applying to that program. I don't know what on earth he wrote in that hour, prob. nothing tailored to my CV or interest! P.S I thought prof are usually incredibly late in submitting LORs!

So I asked a professor in which I am getting an A in his class. I did talked to him a few times outside of class but he flat out rejected me before I even get to the topic. I asked another professor that I didn't really talk to (Only went to his office hours once) to talk during his office hours. I asked him if I can schedule an appointment to talk about graduate school, and he said "sure, we can chat about it and what I can do on my ends.". I am now nervous because I don't know if he misunderstood me as asking him to be a potential grad school supervisor. He often mentioned how many students from this class went on to complete a research degree under him. I don't want it to be an awkward situation when I go in for his office hours. How should I approach this? Keep in mind he probably don't know me very well. I just plan to bring my CV and everything and chat about why I am going for this program and hopefully he can give me a positive reference letter

Hi, it says on DLSPH's website that the min. requirement is mid B in last yr. Do they look at Last yr or last 2 yr's gpa then? It will make a big difference in my gpa since I did a lot better in my last yr. Thx!

Hi, deadline is mid jan for my grad school apps. So I've already asked my supervisor who supervise my independent study project (an associate scientist and part time instructor at my school) and another prof who supervised me as a RA for LOR. I am wondering if the supervisor who supervise my independent study project count as an academic reference or am I better off with someone who I've actually taken a course with? I could ask my instructor who I've taken several essay courses with and did very well in both of them. She knew me pretty well as well. However, I think she is only a lecturer and not a professor (I don't even think she got a phD). I could also ask other profs that I've taken a course with, but most of them don't know me well. What should I do here? Does it really matter? Thanks!
