  1. I have the same problem but they say "they like 3 pages double spaced" and I sent it in 3.25 pages double spaced. In you case they clearly state "no more" so it might be a different situation.
  2. I posted this in the Engineering forum, but there is not much feedback and traffic there. I finally have my application ready and I am still indecisive weather to apply to my first options or maybe add some safety schools. I am basically wondering if I need to lower my expectations. I am applying to several MS, in Engineering Management or Construction Management; in some top ranked Universities in Engineering and Civil Engineering. My options are the following, in descending order: 1. UC Berkeley 2. Stanford 3. Illinois Urbana 4. Cornell 5. Columbia 6. Duke This is my profile: - International student from Venezuela, graduated at the number 1 position of a 32 students class in Civil Engineering, concentration Construction Management, (GPA: 16.61/20 - Class GPA: 13.30/20) at a recognized private University in Caracas. - GRE scores: QUANT 760 - VERBAL - 600 - TOEFL: 116/120 - Recommenders: 1 good job experience recomendation and 2 academic recomendations based in some research I did. - Research: Thesis Research Paper, related to Lean Construction. - SOP: I think it might be good, maybe not excellent. - Work Experience: 4 months as an intern, 6 months as a field Engineer in a construction company. I guess that is all, I would really appreciate your advice or feedback. I know the shools I am aiming for might be a little be high. What do you think?
  3. Ok I finally have my application ready and I am still indecisive weather to apply to my first options or maybe add some safety schools. 4. I understand. I did not mentioned the entire proposed curriculum. I just mentioned the areas of emphasis I was interested and the listed 5 courses that I think would help me develop those areas. That was all...
  5. Great, that was what I was aiming for, showing fit Thanks for the advice!
  6. Percentiles should definitely be the most important. I agree with you that it doesnt make any sense when schools say they want scores over 1400. They are adding two completely different scores, regardless of their percentiles, I dont think an added score means anything. However, they fix a little bit the discordance between math and verbal with the new scale.
  7. You are mentioning both professors and courses? But you are applying to a phd.... My case is a MS in Engineering...
  8. In the concordance charts 320 (160+160) is more close to 1360 to be exact. However, I think schools are going to see 160 as the new cutoff, regardless of what it really translates to.
  9. Ok, so I am almost done with my SOP for Engineering Management. Since the proposed curriculum of this program is very wide and adaptable to many interest, I put in my SOP what my areas of emphasis are and I even mentioned the core courses that I wish to take. I did that in order to show that I have a clear idea of what the program is about and also to show what my interest are. I was just thinking if that is a good idea? is it common to mention courses you wish to take, and maybe some professors in the SOP, or should I use the space for more important information. What do you think?
  10. I repeat this question: do you guys think that with the new scores 320 is going to be the new 1400?? I know they are not exactly the same percentile wise but I think for some purpose 160 is going to be the new cutoff for many schools What do you guys think?
  11. You are in the same position as me... I am now 100 words over the limti (1100). But I really think I would leave it like this, I think deleting an extra paragraph could really hurt the structure of my essay
  12. Do you guys think that 320 is the new 1400. I know it doesnt translate to that, actually it is (1360). But I think for easy purpose 320 will be the new 1400. Just a though (or a hope)
  13. Finally got my resutls: Verbal - 160 - 86% - Estimated: 630 - 730 Quant - 160 - 84% - Estimated: 740 - 800 Goo luck!
  14. At what time are you expecting the results? I need to sleep...
  15. Do you have a link or info in the departments students profile?
  16. I see... Based in my profile, do you think I have any real chance? I am not yet sure whether to apply in Stanford.
  17. I read your post, nice info... You mention 750-800 math scores are all over the place. What do you think about 740-800 math scores?
  18. Do you have any statistics about that? what percentage of international or external students are accepted?
  19. This is my profile: · I finished my BS in Civil Engineering 4 months ago in a Top University in Caracas, Venezuela. I graduated top of a 32 students class and my GPA is 17/20. Class GPA 13/20 · I have no background or experience in the US education system. I just studied English for 6 months in LA after I graduated from Highschool. · I have been working in my family Construction Company for about a year. I did my intership there. Great working experience letter of recommendation · I did a research thesis in order to obtain my BS, its subjects related to construction planning and control (Lean Construction) · I have relatively good LOR, specially the professor I did my thesis with, but since they are professors that do not speak English fluently I am a little afraid they might not be perfec · My GRE scores are: 740 - 800 MATH , 630 - 730 VERBAL I am planning to apply to the MS in Construction Engineering and Management at Stanford. Also the MS in Engineering and Project Management at Berkeley. What do you think?
  20. I do not have a reccomendation letter from stanford, I am an international student. I did not know it was a requirement. Do you know if it is possible to apply to the Eng Degree after I start the MS?
  21. Thanks for the advice. Ill try it. I am now 100 words over. 3 pages and 1 paragraph... Its so hard to let some words go
  22. 9 weeks is more than enough... after that youll end up without more material to practice
  23. I already did that I we managed to cut 1 whole page. The only thing is they suggested 3 pages, why should I go for 2-2.5?
  24. Sometimes you believe what you want to hear
