Grunty DaGnome reacted to wintergirl in 0% Confidence of Acceptance
I don't really have a Plan B yet, but thankfully I got an encouraging email from DeVry University today that indicated they'd definitely accept me. Problems solved!

Grunty DaGnome reacted to rawera in 0% Confidence of Acceptance
My plan is to waste $1000+ applying to programs that will reject me. It's going pretty well so far, I think.

Grunty DaGnome reacted to antecedent in 0% Confidence of Acceptance
Hahaha I had a similar reaction upon first graduating from my undergrad and before I was 100% committed to grad school, and my Dad's response was "Don't waste your time. Just join the circus and get it over with."
Thanks for the unwavering support, Dad!

Grunty DaGnome got a reaction from especially in Going Canadian?
Probably the biggest drawback to studying in Canada and then trying to return to the United States is that you'll be used to undergraduate students who are motivated, responsible and prepared.

Grunty DaGnome got a reaction from wreckofthehope in GRE Quant. Scores for English Phd Applicants
Because every hour spent studying for the math GRE is an hour spent not editing a writing sample.

For schools that have cutoffs, fuck those schools.
Why don't they just put it on their admissions page instead of the vague, "Oh, we don't have a cutoff, but generally successful applicants have at least a blah blah blah." Stop it. Just put the minimum up and save me the application fee, jerks. Jesus.

I got in the 22nd (now lowered to 19th, thanks to this year's test takers) and I got accepted. Maybe it factored in at some of the top 10 places or the public schools I applied to (?), I don't know, I don't believe it made much of an impact on the strength of my application overall.

Just submitted my Minnesota application! Now it's on to hurry and get Emory's in by the end of the day!

Tomorrow is December 1st.
(The above is proof that I'm not a snob)

Grunty DaGnome got a reaction from takethiswaltz in Anyone else having problems with NYU/Embark?
I just applied using firefox. It works, but it definitely takes a few tries.
Sometimes, when the program "times out" while loading a document, if you log out and log back in, you can see by clicking on "preview" that the document did in fact load.

December 1st deadlines suck, but it does feel good to start sending these things OUT.

TripWillis, I like the cut of your jib.
As for me, if there were also a thread on this board titled "Hell yes, I'm getting into school X because I'm a GENIUS!!!!!!!111!!!1", then I would likely spend my day flip flopping between them every hour, on the hour.
Today was a knockout round, and it ain't half over yet. At one point after my thesis proposal defense meeting I found myself inexplicably in tears and asking my adviser (and director of my MA program) to lie to tell me I was going to get in somewhere.
I ain't proud, y'all.

Grunty DaGnome got a reaction from ecritdansleau in Columbia Deadline Extension -- December 15th
The deadline hasn't changed since September. Did you apply to Columbia last year or research them in the spring? Are you're confusing them with NYU?
I hate to break this news to you, but NYU's deadline is December 1st, so you should start freaking out again! [unless you are only applying for the M.A., then you have until January 13th].
