  1. Hi! I got accepted to a PhD in Human Development and Family Studies in Penn State. Heading to an admissions weekend in mid-March. Really looking forward to it.
  2. For Question 4: I am an international student applying to the US although I'm currently based in Maryland. I came to the US on a 2-week trip in June 2011 and what I needed was a visa waiver. This allows you to enter the US for up to 3 months. You are not allowed to work on the visa but interviewing with a potential grad school would be fine. It is only available to people from certain countries (I'm from Ireland) so not sure if that will help you. I can't remember the exact price but I'm pretty sure it was under 20euro. Here's a link https://esta.cbp.dhs.gov/esta/ Hope it helps.
  3. Are people getting information about funding at the same time as news of acceptance?
  4. I finished my B.A. in May and came to the US on a 12-month working visa in October. I have applied to over 200 jobs - not an exaggeration! Have been offered a few jobs but couldn't take them because the visa is so restrictive. I'm regretting not applying to grad school directly after my B.A. but, in another way, after having lived through unemployment for a few months I have a new-found appreciation for work and university that I wouldn't have if I had stayed in school. I've applied to three US schools and they're my plan As. Plan B is a masters course back in my country which would be free but really want to stay in the States. The results section of the site has 2 of the 3 schools I applied to getting back about admission at the start/mid February so I'm trying to keep cool but with no job to keep me busy it's tough (although David Sedaris is doing a pretty good job of distractig me!). Best of luck everyone!
  5. I'm applying for a PhD in Lifespan Cognitive Development in Georgetown and a PhD in Human Development and Family Systems in Penn State as well as an MA at William & Mary. Going by the info on the results survey for last year I should start hearing back in a month or so but the wait is killing me!
  6. I'm applying to the MA at William and Mary. It sounds great. I think it's important to consider what your goals on getting a masters are and to then check if the masters in focused on taught components or on research. I would eventually like to get a PhD so I think the W&M masters would put me in a good position for that. Stereopticons - is it rude to ask how much the stipend was? I know that it can change from year to year but a rough figure would be appreciated. Doing a masters for which I'd have to take a few loans out wouldn't be an option for me.
  7. Got my results today. Took the test on the 2nd of November. I'm happy but I should have studied more. I just looked over some of the math a few days before the test and the book I was using omitted some of the topics that came up. I think it was McGraw-Hill's version. I checked the reviews on amazon just now because I wasn't sure if that was the book I used or not and they seem to raise similar issues. The problems were basic and too easy. Just thought I'd bring this to notice! V - 165 (96%) Q - 152 (61%) AW - 5.5 (96%) - don't remember what the estimated ranges were...
  8. Irish graduate here. Got my GRE scores today and have finished applying to three programs. Applied for a PhD in Psychology at Georgetown, A PhD in Human Development at Penn State, and an M.A. in Psychology at the College of William and Mary. I'm hoping to get into W&M. If I don't hear anything back I might apply for some M.A.s in Ireland but the Irish application system is dramatically less arduous (and a lot less efficient!) than the American system so I don't have to think about writing another statement of purpose for a long time!
