UCSB for me!!!!!!!

I officially just filled out my form to decline my offer at UPenn sociocultural. I hope that someone is able to get off the waitlist and enjoy their very generous funding offer! Best of luck to everyone!!!!!!

I'm about 90% sure I'm turning down my UPenn offer. I still have yet to visit, but it looks like I am going to pass on their offer if that helps. I'm trying to schedule a visit as soon as possible because visits can change everything.

Just got back! Pretty big cohort- 15 or so. Equally divided between definitely will attend and weighing other offers. Program seems well-funded. All students are guaranteed TAships, health insurance, and access to student housing. close to 100% placement rates once degreed. newer office spaces. great weather. doesnt seem there was a waitlist of any sort.

Yale- Then you would be doubling your network, not having to worry about a teaching load, would get the undivided attention from an advisor ( amazing!), opportunity to build own curriculum and explore different topics since you have yet to nail down a topic. Snow men don't get enough credit for being awesome... seriously. You'll get to love the winters.

I have no idea how UCI works but we have our visit day next Monday. I'm not sure about anything regarding "rounds" since we werent given any information regarding dates to accept/reject their offer. Do you know that they do rounds of acceptances? The cohort already seemed rather large based on their email that said that something like 10% of the applicants were admitted. I'll post more info when I get back next week!

Thanks for this great post and great thread. I'm in the exact same predicament. I have no idea what to do. East Coast vs West Coast (knowing I want to end up on the West Coast). Do I go to the name brand program with a lot of financial support? Or do I go for the place that I may be in a tighter financial situation but may be happier with other things? I'm not exacly sure how much money should play into this decision knowing that one school has a significant advantage over the other schools to support things like summers, conferences, etc. What do I do? Visits are coming up next week. I really really hope that it gives me some perspective and not confuses me more.

Congrats to everyone on this board and best of luck to everyone still waiting! Although it's winding down, it's not over yet!! <3 -
Yep ...the biggest cohorts are officially EPM and IEP..followed probably by Higher Ed and AIE ?(which just got increased last year) is my guess.

Harvard, are you there? Only one acceptance via phone. I suspect that acceptance letters should have gone out last Thursday or Friday. Rejections get sent out in March. If nothing by Wednesday, I'm calling it. -
none...but if i'd guess, i'd say next week is the week. best of luck!! see some of you soon!<3

I'm sorry your thread got turned into a debate about interviews when you really wanted specific advice about communication. FWIW I have a great offer from a school that I may not be able to visit because of scheduling conflicts and I am in a similiar predicament with my top choice (still waiting). So, I've been doing the communication dance with a few schools. I think you should continue your correspondence with your POI(s) etc. (I have done this and they have been amazing) and be very honest. These are your future colleagues and you dont want to start off on the wrong foot by burning bridges. I think it would be right to thank them for all of their information and tell them that you are in the process of reviewing the information to ensure that you find the best fit. You can tell them that you are strongly considering their offer and they are on the very top of the schools you are considering. However, you are still waiting on some schools to make sure that you have all of the information that you need to make the best decision possible. Schools know that other schools havent all notified yet. Schools also know that students like to wait until all of their offers come in. It just makes sense and as long as you are diplomatic and honest (the best you can), don't worry too much. It will help if you have a good sense whether you want to go there as soon as possible though. If you really don't then you should give them the axe as soon as possible, as diplomatically as possible. Sometimes schools have waitlists and thats not fair to them (mine dont) but also, schools also have to figure out their cohorts as soon as possible. Take as much time as you need, be aware of any deadlines for fellowships that they may have given you(some schools have these... I have a March 1st one thats freaking me out), and be fair and honest. Remember not all schools or offers are tied to the April 15 deadline, so make sure you know all the details about your offers so that you dont lose your fellowship to someone else (if your funding works that way.. funding packages are cobbled together tons of different ways). Best of luck!!!!!! I'm sure you will make a great decision with school.

I actually just ordered my iPad yesterday. I finally caved. Everyone here basically has an iPad because it really stinks having to haul around a laptop allllll day, 8-8. With the keyboard that you attach its a breeze to type notes in class, present work, annotate hundreds of articles, work on tiny grad school desks or chairs when you cant get a desk or youre at a random lecture. You can take pictures more easily and all of the apps are amazing. Once you are a Apple fan its hard to switch back, being able to sink all of your items is kind of amazing- iPhone, MacBook, iPad...etc.

Congrats on your acceptance! Thats wonderful!

Anyone else experiencing the quiet treatment?

I know for certain that UPenn has notified. Have you checked the results board to see if your other schools have also done the same? If not, good luck! There is still hope. -
Yeah, next Friday is March 1!! If I havent heard from Harvard's Am Civ by then, I can safely say I am not getting in. They always notify accepted students before then. I want to just go tomorrow and see what's up but I'm not ready to let the dream die.
