  1. Ulysses is incredibly tough. I don't think I would have ever finished it if I did not take a course specifically on Joyce.
  2. Oh, I haven't read plenty of books. I'm working on correcting that now; I am really weak on the Americans.
  3. It's cool; I don't really think about him that way.
  4. I have been lied to! I ran over a bridge into what I thought was the keys. Thanks for straightening me out.
  5. Whoa dude, you totally stole my username!
  6. I was referring to the Florida Keys. But the word 'cays' means something very similar. 'Quays' are usually in harbors, I think - like where you dock a boat to load or unload, maybe? I have a feeling that they all stem from the same root.
  7. Well if that is the case, I apologize, Lolo. Whoops. I have never been to Oxford, OH, but I have friends of friends that did their undergraduates there and loved it. Also, it is closer to Cedar Point than I have ever lived; that has got to count for something, right?
  8. Awesome. Very, very awesome.
  9. What do you mean? (So no, probably not intentional).
  10. Coral Gables, I assume? The campus is absolutely amazing. Seriously beautiful. And you can literally run over the bridge into the keys.
  11. (Sorry, the opportunity was just too good to pass up).
  12. I don't think people are necessarily trying to sound smart, I just think that they think those instances are correct.
  13. Better known as Pulpit Hill. or perhaps, Chapel Thrill.
  14. When I was living in London, I had no internet at my flat, and I spent a lot of time in the local public library. I once witnessed an actual Nigerian man composing one of those Nigerian scams - it was one of the funniest things I have ever seen. I was on the computer next to him, and I was watching him out of the corner of my eye. It was complete with all of the epistolary scam conventions, and it took every ounce of composure that I had not to burst into uncontrollable hysterical laughter. Also, a guy I know on another forum got into an extended email exchange with one of these scammers that included scanned passports, driver's licenses, family photographs - all posted for our viewing pleasure, of course. It was hilarious how much this guy could get the scammer to believe while feeding him absolute bullshit (at the level to even rival the scammer's own). Absolutely brilliant stuff.
  15. So I did the typical self-google and didn't come across anything particularly damning. Then, I clicked on the link to Spokeo; the website had pictures of every person with my name in the world, addresses, websites et cetera. I clicked on my home state on the map, and not only did they have my home address, they had information like the value of my home, and parents and sibling's names. Creepy stuff. If admissions committees actually make this effort, I would be surprised (and profoundly disturbed).
  16. Alright, look at it this way. Neither of us got in last round, right? I'm not sure about you, but I feel like my application is loads better than it was last year. I feel like right now, my application would be picked over my own application from last year. I wouldn't call last year a 'practice' round per se, but I certainly benefited from the experience. This time around, I made much more informed school selections based on fit and department rather than name prestige and location et cetera. I am sure plenty of people make the same mistakes. We are one year ahead of them.
  17. Now, how many of those 300 applicants applied to the SAME 10 schools? Eliminate the unqualified candidates and those that consider this a 'practice round', and you've got the field significantly narrowed.
  18. What about the Daggers? It's a good time to support the Hammers; we are really on the up! Joint top of the league, as of last weekend!
  19. It is not quite a sham, but it's not quite as live-action as you would suppose. I did have a couple of friends on the show: An American guy and a Swedish girl buying their first home in Stockholm - I think they had already purchased the house, but went and filmed as if they were checking out the others.
  20. From North Carolina, but I am a die-hard supporter. I spent a couple years living in London and spent a fortune on match tickets. This season has been tough - primarily because the fizzypop is a very strong league top to bottom, but also because I have to listen to every match on the radio. Which club do you support?
  21. I am not really into this genre (although one of my roommates is making us watch Firefly), but Veronica Mars is a freaking awesome show (and not really sci-fi either).
