Harvard peeps:
I emailed the graduate director yesterday politely asking about the status of my application. I received the following response:
"The committee is meeting these two weeks and some replies may begin to be sent out in two weeks from the Graduate School."
So, does this mean that the interviews aren't mandatory? I don't know what to make of this response.
I guess I'll just tell myself that if I don't get an interview date, then I should just pretend I didn't get in. Then, if I do, it'll be a pleasant surprise. LOL
Congrats and good luck to all!
I was wondering the same thing... :hugs:

I'll just get away from all this rush and read, read, read. See you in a couple of days!
(or hours if I fail )

Congrats PhDreaming! And, of course, busbus and Ling304!!!! I hope everything goes OK with your interview. Just don't freak out, you've made it this far, that's a great sign. You'll do fine, and we're here to support our fellow linguists.
I didn't hear from Cornell today, so it's probably a no from them. It looks like they send out rejections by mail about a week after acceptances. So I'll brace myself for that.
Feel ya. Goes for Harvard as well.

Too late! I already snuggle with my smartphone.
I'M NEVER LEAVING MY SMARTPHONE. EVER!11111

I've switched my computer clock to Cambridge, MA timezone, and I'm GMT+2.
Talk about another level of lunacy.

The best of luck, guys!
We can do this!

The schools should make an RPG in which the hero is our almighty WannabeGrad. There are 10 big levels, and you have to collect data, documents and LORs instead of coins like Super Mario. You fight one member of the admission committee after completing each level. And to stay alive, you have to refresh your status every 30 seconds (it's like checking inbox). If you fail to defeat the last boss - your POI - there's a consolation prize - you get another game (a new acceptance) for free via snail mail in March!
I should do this, really. This is my new research proposal, could be good for Comp. Sci., Psychology etc.

Yes, no one knows what music theory is, even though I think most high schools offer it as a course.
I gave up explaining linguistics as well.
Before:
- Hey there, what are you applying for?
- Linguistics, historical/comparative.
- The same as your BA and MA?
- Yeah.
- So... is that a science or what? How many languages do you speak? You're going to be a translator, right?
- :AAAAAAAAAAAAAARGH:
After:
- Hey there, what are you applying for?
- Languages.
- Which one?
- All of them.
- Cool.
It's easier.

I'm jealous. It takes actually a lot of confidence and strength not to freak out in times like these.

I didn't get any rejections nor any acceptances. The waiting is killing me, so look on the bright side - at least you know and can move to plan B, whatever it is. However, I know it's not easy to handle it, but it's usually a lottery, so don't blame yourselves, please.
Take care!

Wish you all good luck.
Come on, Harvard & Yale, I've stalked your acceptances from the last year, it should have been done already.

I am, as I had written before, 24, but this application & waiting time took 10 years out of me, so i'm 14 now, thank you very much.
This anxiousness really is like puberty all over again.

Plan B: If I don't end up in grad school, I will move to Hollywood and write a script about a zombie admissions committee.
And GradCafe's zombie apocalypse plan! Actually they are like zombies, they are just picky about whose brains they want.

I've reached my quota of positive votes for the day, but this is so awesome. Thanks!

Sometimes they don't send the invites the same day, keep your hopes up!
Also, day 2, stayin' alive.

I'm not even letting it ring. Refreshing, refreshing, refreshing and my finger's basically all the time on the "receive call" button.
