  1. Condolences to the WashU app. and yes we get mail saturday
  2. I like that picture idea ... might be able to incorporate other social media with that
  3. Well if this African history PhD gig doesn't pan out, my other passion is military history so we'll see
  4. All-Star "breaks" are the worst as far as I'm concerned ... nothing but fluff .... and yes genii is the plural of genius
  5. Well I meant for the first year or two, b/c if you can't stable funding by your 3rd year you're in a serious problem, I would imagine, no?
  6. I like coming back to read these threads ... how full of hope we were
  7. I am going on a self-imposed radio-silence on FB as far as grad school apps are concerned don't want to burn out the good folks on my friendslist. That and my timeline can't take the neurosis.
  8. I think i missed this, but what spurred the need for a conversation? Wasn't the email sufficient? Did they ask about Skype?
  9. I wonder where the modern day American Liddell-Hart is going to come from then if these people have that approach?
  10. I hate the weekend before the super bowl ... no sports to offer as a distraction (I refuse to count the NBA as my team is currently in tailspin) ... these school are crafty! They make you apply during the most heightened points of the sports season and then when there is a sudden lull, that's when the ADCOMs meet .... what diabolical genii they are! I salute them indeed
  11. I wonder if it's too late to "accidentally" bump into a POI at this stage of the game?
  12. Is something like this available to PhD students as well?
  13. Well now I feel rude because I barely communicated with any of the POIs during the whole process. Well time to get my schmooze on!
  14. Good ... don't hold it in ... I've found out that holding back emotion can just be damaging ... I think this is why these boards exist so you can share your experience with those going through the same thing as you
  15. I am as relaxed as can be right now ... due to the acupuncturist pricking me w/the wrong needle ... I currently cannot feel anything ... mentally however that is a whole different ball of wax
  16. Haven't seen that on the thread thus far
  17. As far as FAFSAs go, I believe you have a bit of leeway as far as application deadlines go, so I would not personally worry about having one filled out and ready to go right now. Doesn't mean you can't get a jump start on it.
  18. Well I will def advocate for others to apply to UK schools now that I know they'll call you and not the other way around. Gotta save those pennies
  19. At this point I don't know what else to do. I contacted my referees at least two days before all the seperate deadlines to make sure they were aware and that they had all sent in everything needed. At least the school contacted me before the ADCOM meets next week. I still have time to come up with something. If there is a will, I am told, there is a way.
  20. LOL I would ask you to expound on that, but I fear this could cause a minor panic and I do not want to unleash that sort of chaos on a weekend
  21. Oh I know ... and I'm relatively new to this forum but that is one thing I've quickly learned and that is people can read into something innocuous so quickly.
  22. When were you at Monterey if I may ask? And totally get your point about door breachs. I wouldn't think your military background would be that much of a distraction if you have the overall makeup of a good student. Why do you say there seems to be a stigma with military folks, if I may ask?
  23. Did they pay the long distance charges?
  24. Got an email from one of my schools saying they hadn't received one of my LORs and my referee is currently incommunicado so I'm sort of @$$ed out right now if I can't get a hold of that professor. This should be a fun weekend
