  1. I applied to 10 programs, and have recieved an interview invite from one. I had a skype interview before the holidays with my POI, and then on New Years I was contacted by my second POI at that school. I know thought that the programs hasn't yet spoken to everyone they were interested in, and I haven't heard yet from any other programs.
  2. I purchased a like new designer jacket for $7 from the Salvation Army (and a skirt that retails for over $500 for about $5, but that is neither here nor there). They have great items second hand, and no one will know.
  3. I received an email. This is my second season applying, and I'm not even checking my applications this time around. The only interview I received I was contacted about via email as well. Thankfully I am a far stronger applicant this time around.
  4. Kids, dogs, teaching, and RAing. Not a spare moment to wonder whether the second time applying is the charm!
  5. I always send a short thank you email, telling the prof how much I enjoyed speaking to him or her, and maybe mention one specific thing that you are grateful or excited for (such as you gratful he noticed your true academic potential as proven by your recent and major gpa improvements)
  6. I know when I contacted more than one POI I always told the second person that I already contacted someone else.
  7. I did that during a video chat pre-interview and I think it went over well. I'm just am very clear that this is a small thought I had and I would like the opinion of someone who is more experienced than myself on the matter, and I saved it for one of the questions that I asked at the end. But that is pretty much exactly what I am like too.
  8. UT Austin Social weekend is the February 22-23 weekend
  9. Just let me know where I send my application to... (and btw there's a great movie on the topic called Accepted)
  10. My GPA is a 4.0, and my GREs are in the 91st (quant), 96th (verbal), and 98th (psyc) percentiles, and out of 9 schools I received only one interview (my absolutely lowest choice), and have yet to hear back from them. I have 2 conference presentations, and a submitted manuscript that will likely be published soon. I applied to at least 3 schools where the fit would have been excellent with more than one faculty member and still nothing. I worked on my personal statement with a number of faculty to make sure it was up to many peoples standards. I can certainly sympathize with your disappointment. I know I'm wallowing in mine...
  11. Would you mind sharing the name of that professor? Thanks!
  12. Thanks for the effort on my part. I really thought that my fit with Rutgers and Princeton were really good, and I know that my LORs and numbers were all great. Seeing that they were my top two schools this is quite a disappointment for me.
  13. If you're only interested in doing therapy, and not in research and academia, you should consider either a MSW or a psychology masters (in mental health). It will save you a lot of time and money (possibly as much as six years of your life). Just something to consider. CUNY offers those, and that's probably the cheapest tuition anywhere.
  14. Does anyone know if the social programs at Rutgers (NB) and Princeton have formal interview days? I noticed a few people posted that they were contacted for an interview, but I can't tell if it's an official part of the admissions process as I can't find anything about interviews on their websites, or if it's up to the researchers to decide if they'd like to interview applicants interested in their labs on an individual basis.
  15. Kaplan has a quiz bank which is not inexpensive but very helpful since you can sort the questions in various ways
  16. Well I got my first official rejection yesterday, though to be fair I had already assumed it, together with another one. Hoping for a better February today!
  17. What? There's such a thing as too much?
  18. Rejection: Application to PhD in Clinical Psychology Program-Fordham University
  19. Thanks. I was just really happy that my water didn't break during my interview. As it was I was the pregnant girl with the cane.
  20. I'm 36 weeks pregnant so I like to make a wish list for the baby, though I imagine this is not much of a relevant project for most... Honestly there is nothing that can distract me from checking my email 15 times a day.
