Hopefully that doesn't happen.

Last night, when I logged into check my status, for a brief moment, I thought I saw the words, "a decision has been made." Then they were gone, I actually did a search for the word decision to make sure I really was imagining it. I was. This is dumb.

Well there is that 3.0 mark required for the DGS to send it to the department, although there's certainly conditional admission. I managed to pull my GPA up to Cum Laude, literally at the 11th hour. I feel really fortunate there.

At that point, does it even matter? -
I will probably first treat myself to jumping up, screaming at the top of my lungs and scaring the life out of everyone in the coffee shop. From there, it's anybody's guess.

That's lame. I hope it turns around in your favor. I have heard of people getting incorrect rejections with very apologetic notes (from schools and from jobs). I'd say check it out, but don't get too hopeful. Since their rejection didn't hurt the first time, don't build it up so they can get you with a 1-2 punch.

Not gonna go there... Summer vacation

I'm starting to think the best answer to that question is something along the lines of, "be happier than you, apparently." -
I wonder if that's going to be the general timeline for all of us.

Haha, that's a long list of corrections. Let me address them one by one. 1. "Y'all" is a southern term It's also ubiquitous in Houston. This plays into number 4 below. 2. Technically it isn't "hill billy" it is either Appalachian-Americans, Mountainous-Americans or regional variants Fair enough. However, my family told me they were turning me hillbilly (with pride, I might add). 3. Houston? That's more of a Texan twang, distinct onto itself It is definitely different than the weirdness that comes out of the mouths of my Georgian friends. 4. If anyone says Texas is the south, is a damn liar! Oh and deserves to be shot That depends on which Texan you ask, they're either Southern (sometimes), their own damned country (usually), or both (often). 5. Accents are the best when they are clearly phony Agreed. -

The only accent I ever picked up was visiting family in Houston. Apparently my speech tuned into hillbilly in a week... "what's y'all doin'? I pick it up instantly on the phone. It's kinda hilarious. -
This will be a good week. Say it with me.

We regret to inform you, you've moved from statistical analyses to affirmations. Are we all doomed? -
Ear-piercing and a complete annihilation of focus. I'm hoping my midterm this week distracts me enough to relax a little (a differential equations midterm is relaxing - I never thought I'd feel that way). Of course, an acceptance would allow me to focus on everything else with a renewed energy... /waits desperately

2012 Applicant Profiles and Admission Results

Congrats on your decision! It's exciting to see other Marine Geophysics people being successful. This waiting is still driving me crazy. Agreed. I remember when my mineralogy professor told the class that was his specialty. I went sailing over to him after class, and basically asked him to tell me everything, haha. Now I wonder if I over-specialized my interests, combining mineral physics with marine geophysics. I think there's a lot that could be done by routing those disciplines into one direction, I hope the programs I applied to agree. -
I would find that nerve-wracking too. I know you're never supposed to go to interviews with expectations, but I definitely would have been looking for hints throughout the process. I've found solitaire to be helpful in relieving the obsession to some degree (how awful is that?). Also, driving around listening to music was nice (until gas prices went sailing to the moon). Best of luck!

worlds apart

Indeed, now if it can just not take until the end of the month...

Yeah. On the upside, March seems to be moving much faster than February, and we're getting to the point where the schools will be trying to get offers out for deadlines and visitations...

Could not agree more. -
3. It's also very dependent on the department (e.g. the three remaining schools I've applied to are still in assessment, at least according to DGS).

Then you should definitely do this. Don't harass them, obviously, but talk to everyone you can find whose research is a decent fit. Also be as patient as possible, it took some of the faculty (whom I emailed in August) until October to get back to me. They really are that busy. Good luck!
