  1. I think that is what I might do but for dresses instead. Good idea!
  2. Most of the people I hang out with have G+. (And none of us work for Google, so maybe we're just nerdy.)
  3. I received a comment extremely similar in a Shakespeare class in my second year. Something along the lines of, "Your paper is disappointing. You seemed like much more of a critical thinker in class."
  4. I wish they would just send out rejections right away and then accept me later just so I don't go crazy.
  5. Edmonton is more kijiji friendly, but if you're looking in the Uni/Whyte area, I recommend just walking around and phoning numbers posted in windows. In my experience, rent is generally going to run you $750-800 per month for a one bedroom apartment and more for more bedrooms. But yeah, walking around is the best way to go. All areas seem comparable in terms of price except slightly north of 104 ave and between 105 and 113 streets, but this neighbourhood is scary. I don't recommend it if you are a single female and get nervous in the dark. I use padmapper for apartment searches, too.
  6. I don't know which is more painful: the waiting or the rejection.
  7. There are a tonne of open-mic type events on Whyte during the weekends, and there's always a local hall or bar show on the weekends as well. Wunderbar has had some pretty good shows lately, actually.
  8. I disagree with your top three choices. 1) Oodle Noodle, 2) Lebanese joint on North side of Whyte in between 108 and 109 st, 3) Famoso Pizza (just opening up) and then take it over to the Black Dog Freehouse (yes, you can take your own food in there). Mind you, the dahl at Remedy is both cheap and delicious. I enjoy living in Edmonton, and this winter has been pretty mild so far. But I agree with the above posters in that Whyte Ave is the best area to live for sure. So much to do.
  9. I've applied to Memorial, Simon Fraser, and Queen's for an MA in English Lit. I hope I hear soon, too, since all my friends who applied to the U of A have heard already.
  10. I am from Edmonton, and I think it's an alright town. If you end up living on the U of A campus or down Whyte Ave, it will be pretty fun. Whyte has a lot of cool shops and restaurants, and record stores. As long as you don't mind the cold. (But there's a tonne of stuff to do in the winter.)
  11. I wish I had an acceptance somewhere so I could start phoning and asking when I should expect to hear. Waiting is stressful.
  12. I think, in your place, I would phone U of T and tell them my dilemma. They might have made a decision already and could just let me know, or it could push them to decide. Just explain that you have a deadline but you would prefer to go to Toronto because of X professor's research or dep't size or what have you. Both compliment and push. Hope that helps. Congratulations on Western, by the way.
  13. If you read the last couple chapters of Vol. 1 first and then read the whole thing through, it will be easier.
  14. I think there is a thread for the Bombardier CGS. But yeah, tell the programs you've applied to that your SSHRC application has been forwarded. They prefer if someone else funds you.
  15. I've applied to three schools for my MA. Haven't heard a single word from them yet. Hopefully soon. Checking my email this much doesn't help when I need to write papers!
  16. Does anyone know if Canadian universities send out rejections or acceptances first, or both at the same time? The wait is killing me, and I was told not to expect word for at least another month.
  17. I only applied to three schools. So not only have I not heard anything (and probably won't until April), but I am kind of wondering if I ruined my chances of getting in by not applying to enough schools.
