Just got my first acceptance! UC Davis! I'm so relieved I might die!

Congrats!

Just had an interview with Penn. The professor said he didn't know the timeline and that there might be a few weeks to wait.
I'm dying for my first acceptance. All this is so stressful :(:(:(

Congrats to both you guys above! YTC, did he mention any reason why/do you know if they are still sending out interview calls? Any information would be helpful!

Sorry. I don't really know if they have sent out all interview calls. But as someone earlier said the request gave only short notice (I received the request only one day before the interview), I think there probably still hope.

As a quick follow-up, the Penn interview was as expected. There are things I wish I could change about what I said, but the faculty were great. They said they'd be in touch in the coming weeks but didn't offer more information on the interview process.

I’m sure your interview went much better than you think it did! What were the questions like, by the way? About your research interests and fit, or did they actually grill you very deeply about concepts and preparation etc?

Thanks, @DatGuy! I won't repeat exact information for the sake of discretion, but they asked the kind of questions you'd expect from a short interview. No grilling. My advice, and this goes to anyone who's given a brief interview, is don't think too hard about it.

Fair enough. And alright. Thanks! Good luck for the rest of your process!

After an interview earlier this week, just got an e-mail from POI at Chicago notifying me I've been admitted. Happy!

Congrats!

I'm still waiting official rejection from them...

Congratulations!

Also, someone just posted an NYU interview on the results survey. So many programs that I didn't even remotely think would interview are interviewing...

...another NYU comp lit interview has gone up today

Maybe they've decided to interview for a specific sub-field this year? Trying to make myself feel better in radio silence over here.

Potentially? Both of the ones posted are international-based, so maybe it’s also related to either confirming English capability or, since the MacCracken Visiting Day is on March 7th, giving enough lead time for making travel arrangements.

Good points, thanks!

it's probably because of your deep insecurities

or they just overweight standardized tests and redundant pedagogical patterns that best match their own presumptions and biased projections

Don't worry too much, these boards have zero oversight, almost no laws governing their choices, and the visibility/press they get if they make continually biased decisions is nothing.

Hm.

Ugh. Probably shouldn't have spent most of my SOP talking about how one of my professional goals is to have a Comp Lit department serve as the launching point and ground zero of a Maoist insurgency...

No other way to use a Comp Lit department if you ask me.

Rejection from Brown came in today. It's my first rejection so it definitely stings. But, I'm extra grateful for the Davis acceptance I got a few days ago. It's keeping me from drowning in total despair.

Sorry to hear about Brown, but congrats on UC Davis ! That's awesome. I also applied to Brown, but haven't heard anything. Did you get notified by email or on the portal?

So, my fellow Penn-hopefuls, I emailed Penn two days ago and asked them whether interviews had been completed/all the calls sent out. I have received this response— a great sign. Hope, that indefatigable bastard, lives!

P.S. Apologies for the swearing— couldn't help it...

Just chiming in here--I also got my Brown rejection this morning, by way of an email that told me to check the ApplyWeb portal.
