Has anyone heard back from North Carolina State, UT-Austin, or U Maryland?

I assume I can probably safely cross UCLA and UC Irvine off my list?

UCLA’s interview weekend starts next Thursday, invites went out in mid-December. I feel like someone posted about Maryland, but maybe that was the clinical track. I haven’t seen anything about the rest, I don’t think.

Thank you. UCLA was always a longshot, so I'm not surprised. I just wish they'd just send a rejection and rip the bandaid off!

UMD is the only school I haven't heard from yet. I assumed rejection, but not sure. UC Irvine's interview across all specialties was early January. They had 42 interviewees for ~15 slots, so probably safe to take it off your list, unfortunately! ?

Boo. Okay, thank you!

North Carolina State is my top choice, so I hope the no news is good news rings true right now, as it seems that perhaps no one has heard from them yet?

Question: So I've been offered a lot of interviews and I've accepted invitations to visit each program, but my interview at my top choice program is this weekend. If I get offered a spot at this program I will 100% be going there. So hypothetically if I receive an acceptance sometime next week should I be cancelling my other interviews or should I attend anyway? On one hand I feel like it's rude to accept an interview offer and then change my mind, but on the other hand the school can use the money they would spend on me flying someone else out to visit the program. I really like the PIs from the other programs and I want to keep them as professional contacts no matter what, I just know that my top choice program is a better research fit than the others.

Are your other interviews a long way off? If they’re paying, haven’t the tickets been booked? I would say that if there’s enough time for them to get someone else to come, maybe decline. But personally I’m the type to be open minded. You don’t know what you want until you see it, and there’s always a chance you might discover you really like one of the other programs you’ve been invited to. My first interview is with my top choice, and my second is in a different field (same research topic) and a month later but I’m still planning on going even if I’m accepted to my first choice right away, because I want to see what they have to offer and if maybe it will be a good fit, or better environment.

I had one last weekend, my top choice is this weekend, ones the next weekend (flight's booked so I'm locked n loaded no matter what for that one) and the one I'm thinking of backing out of isn't until Feb 22. I'm definitely with you on the open minded-ness aspect and I personally was leaning towards attending no matter what, but the top choice one is like a 99% fit with my research interests where as the next choice down would be 50% fit just to give an idea. So unless the top choice PI isn't clicking with me I'm pretty set on going. Knowing that, most of my co-workers (also in dev psy, some are also applying right now) are telling me to decline since it's kind of a dick move to the school and to other potential applicants.

i'm sort of in the same boat with you. i've gotten accepted to one of my top choices but i've decided to still go to all my interviews. reason being (1) as @Psyhopeful said, you never know if this school is going to be a better environment or a better fit. it's good to keep an open mind. (2) visiting other schools may bring up questions or things that you never thought of before for e.g. what if the second school is able to offer you an amazing funding package or has this resource that you never thought existed before? that knowledge can also help you later on, when you decide on things to consider for your post-doc (3) networking opportunity!! you will have a chance to meet with renowned faculty in your field and that in itself is an opportunity you should never pass up. you are also going to meet fellow prospectives that you can network and learn from - these are people that later on you will meet at conferences anyway so its good to start your networking from now!

How's everything going for everyone here?

Well, I’m missing interview weekend at UCLA as I type this, thanks to the polar vortex, but I’m anxiously awaiting my new schedule to interview there on Monday. No news anywhere else. I expect rejections to psych programs to start coming next week, but next week is also when most of the comm programs I applied to start to admit so that’s something.

My interview yesterday went really well I thought! But now I'm more anxious than I've ever been, he's invited 4 people here for 2 spots and the other applicants are so nice and deserving. I really really really want to get in, but I also want the other three to be a part of my cohort. He said we should know in a few weeks which of us is getting in, but it's so hard to wait.

If people have been rejected from a school that you have yet to hear back from, what do y'all think that means?

Are we talking about Duke? lol. I emailed them and I will let you know! Who knows. I feel like they want to reject us but forgot and will be getting around to it soon.
